| bud41's Full Review: Etowah Valley Country Club Lodge Hendersonville NC |
Tucked away in the peaceful valley between Hendersonville, NC and Brevard, NC is Etowah Valley Country Club Lodge. Though geared toward golf, croquet, and tennis, this lodging alternative was attractive to us as an overnight choice to get away from the busy traffic of the I-26 motels.
At $99.00, the rate was comparable to the motels in town and we thought the money better spent on nice views and relaxing atmosphere. We weren't disappointed.
The Lodge
We checked in at the clubhouse and requested a top floor, end room. It was available and cheerfully given. We stayed in the north lodge, which is the most basic accommodation available. The two story structures all face the course and have a mountain view - from a screened balcony!
Though the rooms are quite basic, they are clean and roomy. You'll get a "Holiday Inn Express - type" room. As far as amenities - two beds ( hard mattresses to me), a wingback chair, small table, and dresser with cable TV. The walls seemed freshly painted and the bedding and carpet were clean as a whistle.
A/C and lighting worked well. The room had a phone, a hair dryer, and a coffee pot,but no iron.
The Bath
Again- it's motel-style, but sparkling clean. The tub looked a little old but had been scrubbed well. The curved shower curtain was a nice "Westin" touch. Towels were snow white, soft, and pleasant. And, there were plenty of them. The tub and toilet were located in the water closet - along with a small sink. There was Breck shampoo and Dial soap - good old trusty brands if you ask me!
Another sink was outside in the dressing area - handy!
Observations
Ice and vending were one floor down. There was plenty of ice and a nice big scoop in a holder with which to retrieve it.
The grounds of Etowah are a delight to just stroll. After the golfing day had ended we used the cart trails for walking - very nice. The tennis courts and pavillion were just across the street. They were having "Open Hearth Night" and Bar B Q and a dance band for $24.50 per person. We went by and it looked like everyone was having a good time. We opted to drive into Brevard for supper.
This lodge is located in the country, but out on Highway 64 you'll find any stores you need - Ingles, Dollar General, a drug store, gas stations, etc.... It's a about 11 miles from Hendersonville and about the same to Brevard.
The clubhouse has complimentary internet access via a laptop. There is also wireless available. A pool is located at the clubhouse but was closed for the season.
A grill serves breakfast and lunch and packages are available.
One thing I enjoyed was how quiet and dark it was at night. There were no glaring exterior lights to shine through your curtains and illuminate your room. And, we didn't hear a peep from other guests all night.Catering to an older crowd, the atmosphere was genteel. I don't think it would be a very good place for children.
This lodge is a wonderful weekend getaway location for sports or just relaxation.
