Pros: Solid, sturdy. Non-color screen is visible in bright daylight, color screens aren't!
Cons: No speakerphone for calls or voicemail. Speaker for Direct Connect not as good as others.
The Bottom Line: If you don't need bells and whistles, this is your phone. Even has games and calculators! Non-color screen means you can actually see it in bright daylight!

I was happy with this phone for the 4 years I used it. You don't need bells and whistles and color screens, a phone is for TALKING, not watching and playing and ooh-ing and ahh-ing. This phone is great for what it's designed for...talking.
The only drawbacks I noticed are-
First: The Direct-Connect loudspeaker is on the cheap side. I've heard other people's different Nextel Motorola phones and it's amazing how different they sound while 2-waying someone.
Second: There's no speakerphone capability...say while checking voicemail or on a regular phone call. It has the ability to do it physically, since the direct-connect functions this way...yet there's no way to use it as a plain old speakerphone. Hmmm...
And Third: You can receive and read text messages very easily, yet it is literally impossible to type and send a text message with this phone. It's not even an option. Again-Hmmm...
About turning it on and off...who cares how long it takes to turn off? If that's the only con people can come up with, that should tell you something. This is a solid dependable phone. The only reason I have switched from this phone to a more modern bells-and-whistles-type phone is that I eventually started having troubles with the keypad buttons not working correctly. I would have to press the 7-8-9 buttons very hard to get them to work, and the 1-2-3 buttons became extra-sensitive. So, to dial 3 8 6 would look like this...3336. The 3's would pile on the screen while the 8 wouldn't work. But hey, after 4 years of working construction and that's the only thing wrong with it...I'm not complaining!
As mentioned earlier, I switched from this phone to a newer one...the Motorola (Nextel) i275. Yes it's a color-screen camera phone. No I do not like it. As soon as it becomes available to review I will do so. Stick with the non-color screen phones. Unless you're buying a phone to impress your friends, then do whatever you want I guess.
All in all, I loved this i-50. I kind of wish I had this one again, just with a speakerphone.
