I just read your comments about the mad russian. I have a friend who went to one of those group quit smoking sessions with him and he has been smoke free for a few years now. I would like to know how to get an appointment with him. If you have any info on that I would greatly appreciate it. I have gone to other hypnotists to quit smoking and spent ALOT of money with little or no results. Please let me know.I truly want to quit once and for all tis time.
Thanks.Val

Love that Mad Russian (Reply to this comment)
by zanne101
I went to the Russian healer more than 9 years ago and haven't had a cigarette since. I had tried the patch, hypnosis, cold turkey, cutting back on amount etc. I had tried everything. I had heard about Mr. Shubentsov for a few years and had seen a segment on TV where Harward had done a study on him and his methods. The consensus was that they couldn't figure out what he did, but it seemed to work. Puzzled them immensely. I finally saw Courtney Cox talking about him. I still didn't know the correct spelling of his name. So, I called the visitor's bureau in downtown Boston. I said "I know this is going to sound crazy, but I'm trying to locate someone known as the Russian Healer" and the person stopped me and said, "sure, his name is ........" and gave me all the info.
As others have said, the small amount of money he charges is well spent. I have a relative who went to him but is still smoking. But, her personality type precludes anything like this working. It's not a matter of believing or not (I'm a BIG skeptic!) but the willingness to think differently than you usually do. You don't have to believe, but be open to possibilities. Unfortunately, my relative is rock solid in her thinking and stubborn to the Nth degree. So being closed to anything new is detrimental to this process.
I am so grateful for having gone to him. Add up all the money I would have spent on cigarettes for the last nine years!
By the way, all of you who are still smoking, you have no idea that you always smell like a cigarette. No matter how much you shower, wash your hair, brush your teeth, clean your clothes - YOU SMELL LIKE A CIGARETTE! Now, it doesn't particularly bother me, but I have found that so many people limit their contact with smokers because of it, but they will never tell you until after you quit. Then, you will find out how much they hated the smell.
Go see the Russian and be smoke free. Make a long weekend of it like I did. Go out to dinner, treat yourself for doing something smart.

Can you go back to him for a 2nd visit? (Reply to this comment)
by nursemark
I saw the Mad Russian beginning of this year, and quit for 2 weeks. I know it worked, every time I thought of smoking, I got quickly distracted. Unfortunately, I went back to smoking. The call back he offers didn't work for me, I just wasn't 100% ready to put them down. I have to want to quit for sure, for this to work for me. His secretary told me I could not go for another 2 hour session, but to do it over the phone. It hasn't worked. I want to go for the 2 hour visit again, believing the visit will work better than the phone. Does anyone know if you got back to him, will it work again? Help me, I'm coughing.

I tried about 12 times over 18 months and usually felt crazy/wild/creapy/awful. I really really wanted to quit.....and POOF.....I got up the next day, got my coffee and paper and HAD NO DESIRE for a cigarette yet for 28 years I ALWAYS SMOKED at that time w/coffee/paper. It was so WEIRD!! But it worked....went back w/o smoking for a free tune-up and havent smoked now for 19 years!! A MIRACLE! And I don't care how---it just worked.

Please let us know how your daughter made out. Hopefully she pays attention & listens to what this man has to say. He absolutely works but the key is to focus only on what he has to say and not what every one else in the room has to say. I think if the person goes in the group session and before it starts, they just sit and read a book, not talk to a soul, only focus in on what Yefim Shubentsov has to say when he walks in to the room; then that is the key. I really really think that's the key to it. The hardest thing about this visit? It's concentrating on trying to understand what he's saying to you, where he has the thick russian accent. It's hard to get a lot of times, but if you just focus in on him and try to listen to it? It'll work and trust me when I tell you this, I quit in 1991 and I still haven't had one cigarette. I KNOW and BELIEVE that this will work for drug addictions and for weight control too during one of his amazing consultations. It's worth every dime and if he's $65 to this day? That's the best $65 you'll ever spend. Hopefully your daughter quits for good by going to him. Keep us posted!

Miracles do happen. Take her to Brookline to see The Mad Russian. It has worked for so many smokers as you have read below and that is also an addiction that kills. My assistant smoked for 30 years and flew to boston and has not smoked or wanted to smoke since. and it has been 5 years. Good luck.

I am writing because I feel I have no where else to get help with my daughter. She is a cocaine addict and wants more than anything to stop. She suffers very low self-esteem and self-hatred. She has been to 7 rehabs and is presently working her 12-step program. She has been through much counseling and medications and none seem to help. I sincerely believe she is so "stuck" in a negative mindset that she can't get past it without some deeper psychological help. I am hoping and praying that someone out there needed similar assistance and will be able to help us. I have recently lost my son in Aug. 07 to the same disease. Please help me as I/she are running out of options and I don't want to lose my daughter. Thank you.

Sorry I just got your question in an email, I didn't see this until just now! You guys that are really wanting to quit smoking, should definitely contact Yefim to make an appointment by calling his office at (617) 232-3930. I called the number to verify it, and it is correct. He's still located at 1680A Beacon Street, Brookline, MA. Here's some more info about him that you will find very interesting! Good luck and GO to him. Remember, the key is you have to WANT to quit and you WILL, and trust me, if I can quit? ANY ONE can! I'm so grateful to this man. I quit like I said in 1990, over 17 years ago and I haven't had one single solitary cigarette. Whatever he does, it works GO to him, it's worth every dime. I'm glad to hear he's still only $65, GO to him soon, keep calling that telephone number until you get through, usually in the early mornings!

“Yefim Shubentsov is a simple Russian Immigrant. He's not a guru or a
Doctor, but thousands of people swear this man is a miracle worker. From alcoholism to cigarettes, this healer claims to have a 98%
success rate treating addictions. (..) Yefim insists that one 3 hour session in his Brookline, Massachusetts classroom will cure anyone of what ails them: Overeating, smoking, phobias, even chronic pain. ”

The magic is in the change desired (Reply to this comment)
by sadaya
After being tobacco free for 22 years I returned to smoking in 2002. My quit before was done with the aide of a spiritualist minister from the SW(forget his name). I came away without one craving and stayed free of this addiction until 2002. When I began to acknowledge that I was hooked once again, I kept feeling that all I needed to do was return to the time that I was tobacco free and reconnect to what that felt like.

When I read how The Mad Russian works to shift your physical perception I knew I had found the route to freedom. I went to see him on January 12, 2008. Today marks 22 days of being tobacco free and I think about smoking maybe 2 or 3 times per day now and actually more as an observation that I have not been thinking about it rather than missing it. I never had a nicotine withdrawal this time or the last time I quit....Cold Turkey=Nothing!!!

Yefim instructs you to not take up another oral fixation and instead tells you to shift your thinking to something else when the thought of smoking arises. I did this and it worked time and time again. Even last eve I looked at chewing gum in the store and decided that I did not need it as it might remind me of the time I used it extensively to cover up the smell of tobacco on my breathe.

He also suggests you walk 30 minutes per day and I did that for the first 2 weeks and now have returned to my normal gym routine.

I cannot say enough to praise what this man can give to you however YOU must want to change and leave this habit/addiction behind.

It is the BEST $65.00 I have ever spent in my life. Thank you for my health and peace of mind.

He still only charges $65. I went to him 16 days ago and that is still his charge. I do have to say that I still haven't picked up a cigarette since then. I don't know how he does it, all I know that I had no physical withdrawals. I am grateful to have gone to him after smoking for half of my life (since I was 16) because I no longer have to step outside at a party of function to smoke. I would highly recommend going to him, it's only $65 right?

Go To Him, He Works! (Reply to this comment)
by sally53
I went to Yefim Shubentsov in Brookline, MA on May 19th, 1991. It was 16 years ago. I haven't had one solitary cigarette in all that time to this day. He works. He's awesome and absolutely phenomenal. The key is to concentrate on his every single word in your group session as well as your private session with him. His russian accent is thick and hard to understand. Pay attention, follow him in the room and listen up good. He has things to say, listen and retain what he says to you. I went a year before to him and it only worked for 3 months to quit smoking. I went back to him and this time it worked for good. I wouldn't go to any one else. The cravings were never there, that was the part that killed me any other time I quit. This never once ever happened in all the years of not smoking up to this day. Whatever it is, I guess it's some sort of "bio-energetic therapy" of some sort. WHATEVER, it worked for me and that's all that matters! When you're in the group session, do not get wrapped up with all the people there in conversation. Go alone to it and read a book do anything but chatter and gossip with the other people there. Even when you're in line waiting for your private session with this man? Read a book, do whatever it takes to only focus on this man's words. That's the key and hopefully it'll work for you as it did for me all these years to this day! The man is incredibly talented, that's why celebrities and people from all over the place go to him. He's absolutely awesome. If you really really want to quit smoking? Make an appointment and GO to this guy. I don't know what he charges now, back then he was only $65, something like that. It's well worth it, even if he's over $100 now? He's phenomenal, just pay it and go to him, hopefully it works for you. I have nothing but high regards and praise for this man. He's terrific!

It Works for a 3-4 Pack a day smoker! (Reply to this comment)
by wacjr2197
My best friend said if I could quit anybody could, as I was the worst smoker he had ever met or heard of! 3-4 packs of Pall Malls a day---smoked for 25 years--yuck.

It is really weird with the Russian; he is a little strange and his "magic" is definitely strange--BUT IT WORKS. It was my 13th attempt to quit and I really really wanted to quit and I walked out after the session and haven't smoked since---15 years now--and no conscious withdrawl and no pain. My body definitely changed a lot from all the toxins---best thing I ever did. Good luck and give it a try. He charged only $45 for the session fifteen years ago!

Well congrats on 14 years, I am presently at 5 years 5 months and it amazes people when I tell them about my experience with the "Mad Russian". I walked out of his office never wanting, thinking about or remembering ever smoking. I was a 3 pack a day person who I tell people I could have smoked face down in bed that is how bad I was. It is worth the $65 he charges to get your life back! I was wondering if he can help people in chronic pain does anyone know???

I have to agree with the comment about going alone. You go alone and when you're ready.

I went in 1992 after trying to quit, cut down, and through one useless hypnosis. Nothing helped. I can't relax enough to be hypnotized. And I was physically and emotionally dependant on cigarettes. At all times I'd know how many I had in my pack and I was at times chain smoking.

I went to him with an open mind but I did not discard my cigarettes at home, just tucked them away, because I was so highly addicted and smoked so much I figured I'd need them later on. What really prompted me to go was someone I knew who was like a militant smoker managed to quit after seeing him and I was shocked. She was also ready to quit but like me skeptical.

I remember him saying it will happen (quitting smoking) whether you believe it or not. That it wasn't about belief.

I did go alone but was driven there by my boyfriend who had for years tried to get me to quit and was supporting me in this effort. I left his office after the group meeting and went home. I didn't really want a cigarette that night. WHAT??!!?? Unheard of for me, never happened-ever! So I went with it. Waking up was a trigger for having one-first thing before coffee, another trigger. BUT I DID NOT WANT ONE. Not only did I not want one....this is hard to explain... I had NO desire for one, NO physical cravings, NO withdrawal. It was like I was N-E-V-E-R a smoker. Bizarre. I went with it. I was surprised as hours turned into days. My desire for a cigarette had been erased, like a switch going off. When I was around people smoking it was just something they were doing...it seemed to have nothing to do with me. Just like the days before I first started smoking.

Many months later I found those stashed cigarettes in the kitchen and stared at them like they were something left behind by someone else. Of course I tossed them.

My friends were shocked that I'd quit. And stayed a quitter! I never had even a moment of withdrawal and I have no idea how that is even possible. This guy gave me years of life. I could not be any more grateful to him! 14 years smoke-free in October.

... that it's been 6 months since I went to the Mad Russian. I am still smoke free!

His pitch "you will forget what you looked like with a cigarette" didn't work for me. I still occasionally (quite often) want to smoke. I miss it. But he made it bearable for me. I tried quitting before and I was just in too much pain.
I know it takes ex-smokers years to get over the addiction, and this time I think I'm ready for it thanks to the Mad Russian.

The Mad Russian, is not mad! (Reply to this comment)
by tac871
I am a believer in Yefim Shubentsov.
THE TRICK IS TO GO ALONE! Living in Massachusetts, I know dozens of people who have seen this "Mad Russian", mostly for smoking. Only the ones who have gone alone have continued to this date, to remain non-smoking.

I went to him in 1995 for assistance with weight control. (You have to give up something specific, so i concentrated on giving up all chocolate and donuts). I could eat 6 donuts in a sitting, and many chocolate bars before being satisfied.
To this date i have no desire or cravings for these. The smell of chocolate turns my stomach, and if i unknowlingly get a piece in my mouth - my tongue goes numb, example: if it is hidden in a cookie(I gave up chocolate, not 'cookies').

Donuts: no desire. I can walk into a Dunkin Donuts, take a deep breath of the donut smell (which does smell wonderful) and only order a coffee. This is such a wonderful sensation to experience. The 'urge' is there for a second and it completely disappears.

My father went in the 1980's to stop smoking (he was a 2+ pack/day smoker), and he quit, cold turkey. The only side effect was after dinner, he would unconsciously pat his pockets, get up from the table, search his office for "something," and come back to the table. We all knew he was looking for a cigarette - but he had no clue.
Yes, Yefim has his quirks, but he can work, if you go alone.

It did work for us (Reply to this comment)
by malinka74
My Father has learned about the Mad Russian through his friend, who went to see him, and he was able to help him quit smoking, unfortunately my father past away two month ago (lung cancer), so I decided to go with my husband and try this man. I can say that the trip was worth the long hours in the car, we drove from Toronto,ON we both have been smoking over a pack a day, and now we are smoke free , I have tried to quit by my self few times but it only lasted for few hours, but now it looks like it's for good..
I do recommend for people to try this one session it doesn't cost much...and of course it doesn't have to work on everyone..but who knows it might work for you...like it worked for us..
Now few of our friends from Toronto are planning to go and see him too.

saved my parent's life (Reply to this comment)
by catsmile
My Mom had smoked for probably forty years and has never successfully quit. My Dad was probably smoking a half pack a day. Numerous attempts to quit which included the patch all failed miserably.
My father heard about the Mad Russian through word of mouth at work. It took my parents over six months to decide to make an appointment to see him so he could help them with their smoking habits. I'm so happy they did.
The same evening after they saw him we went out to dinner, my Mom smelled the smoke of someone else's cigarette and couldn't believe how much it stunk! After the first 3 days my Mom started to feel much better about quitting and it got easier and easier. The Mad Russian did what ever he does for them and it has been two months since my parents have smoked. If it can work for my Mom, it can work for anyone.
My parents says he still has no clue what The Mad Russian actually did , but whatever it was, it worked.
I am so unbelievably grateful to the Mad Russian for helping them quit and helping to save them from their nasty smoking habit.
He does offers touch-ups at no charge to anyone who feels like they might cave in. I'm sure that those people who complain that it doesn't help never really wanted to quit in the first place and most likely never gave it half a chance.

Giddy (Reply to this comment)
by paularosco
My mother & I went to the MR yesterday 1/17/04. We had a 10:00 appt. and had our last cig. at 9:59. My boyfriend and father drove us, we got a little lost so I think we had about 3 cigs. each in 15 mins. Anyway, we were the last to arrive but the whole thing ran about 7 mins. late anyway. Most of our 1 hour session was not comprehensible---it helped that we had bought & read his book just the week going into the appt. So although we couldn't understand everything, we'd catch enough to know the story he was telling. If you've read anything about him, you know the routine so I wont' reiterate. I will say that I was the first in the U-shape and when he asked my pain---my neck---I haven't had any pain since. 29 hours. And contrary to a lot of the stories out there, he doesn't even have to get out of his chair to do this. I listened to him and tried to understand every word but to no avail----I'd say I understood about 30-40% of what he said. We left the room, awaiting our 1 on 1. I was 2nd to last (my mom being last); he told me to sit down and took my hand and said he knew it would be cold before he touched it; he said I was a beautiful girl and should rememer no substitute (i.e. no food for cigs) and exercise and "you'll be even more beautiful" then I closed my eyes, and thought "I am smoking"; he made like a "pppppufff" like blowing in my face and that was that. I have to say, whenever I have gotten a really strong urge to smoke I get completely giddy---like it's the most foolish idea in the world---like you have to be a complete moron to stand outside in sub-zero temps (as it has recently been in Boston) to smoke. I completely lose it---tears runnning down my cheeks and all. So to me something worked and I hope it stays put! I feel freer and keep smelling my hair----ah it still (after 9 1/2 hours) smells like my shampoo. :-).

My sister is called Moose!

I am also a major nail biter! The thing that worked for me was to get manicures done. I am assuming you're a man (though I could be wrong!).

Even if you are, see if you can challenge yourself not to bite until they are long enough to have them manicured. Lots of men have manicures, too. They'll give you a hand massage and the whole thing. Once your hands look really good, and you've worked and spent money to get them that way, you won't want to bite!
