It's too bad... (Reply to this comment)

...that your niece, although happy before she used the phone, was sobbing afterwards...maybe that's the problem! Could it be that her mother says something to her on the phone that triggers these episodes? Not sure, but trying to make some sense of it. I hope that with a couple more years, your niece matures enough to handle a sleep over. Good review regarding self-esteem!

"Self-Esteem" Can Be Fragile Throughout Life . . . (Reply to this comment)
by rjc
If we never experience a healthy self-esteem as children, how will we recognize it as adults? I have always been very aware of my children's 'self-esteem'. From ages 0 to 17, there have been so many times when 'self-esteem' has been a very fragile thing.
By being aware of their self-esteem, has also allowed me to do the same for myself.
Everyone has 'self-esteem', we just need to learn the things we must do to protect it and keep it positive.
As a parent......I applaud you for being aware of not only your own child's self-esteem, but your neice's as well.

That's too bad. It is true, children are so impressionable that whatever you put into their heads, it's going to stick with them for as long as they live. I hope your neice is not being abused or anything, because that possibility occurs to me for some reason.

My prayers are with you all...
