Having adopted a dog with "issues" I've looked into absolutely every odor removing product on the market. (As well as stain removal), don't ask). This little 5 lb dog has fear aggression problems. He also has "where exactly is the bathroom?" issues.
We had gone back to visit the shelter where we adopted our 1st Chihuahua, since we were such proud parents. Dog #1 was just about perfect. He had a terrific personality, absolutely never had an accident in the house, actually gave my husband cheek to cheek hugs, much loved by neighbors, friends and family, he died of cancer a year and a half ago.
Well, we left the shelter with dog #2. He'd been scheduled for euthenasia. Hubbie said we couldn't leave him there. Of course, he bonded with me immediately (bit hubby 3 times) . He was needy and gave the word velcro a new meaning. I carry him in a baby sling. This little guy wants to be with me constantly-accept when he's sneaking off to mark up the house.
There is nothing like dog pee except maybe cat pee) on a rainy day that makes you want to flee your dwelling. I can take this guy out and he'll pee when he gets in. He will go to his pet door and pee inside rather than go out to do his business. Do NOT leave clothing on the floor, he'll mark it. Saying he has issues doesn't begin to cover it. Either that or he's dumb as dirt. I think it's the former rather than the latter.
I bought Febreze, lots and lots of Febreze. I use Febreze along with odor eliminator sprays and this seems to keep a lid on the smell situation. I find you can't just spray and forget it. I spray Febreze every day. I spray Febreze when I find new spots (after I clean them with my 3O million spot removers). I spray Febreze at the ceiling fans to spread it around, I spray Febreze in my closets, directly on the furniture in the house (the dogs don't smell but it just makes the room hold the scent longer), down in my basement, everywhere.
When cooking in the kitchen (especially fish) I'll spray Febreze after the meal is all cleaned up since fish smells linger.
My granddaughter dumped an entire bottle on my wood floors and it didn't damage them.
I spray Febreze on the curtains, carpet and in the car. I have bottles in evey room. We bought some for my Mom's house since she's in diapers. It keeps her house smelling pleasant. It has a fresh, slightly sweet smell that isn't over powering. You don't get that bad smell mixed with "perfume" smell.
I spray it in my car to freshen that up. I understand there is a citrus version of Febreze I'll be buying that(read stocking up on).
I have both the standard bottle 1.05 pt and small sample bottles I keep in the cars. I buy the Febreze refills and work from them. If the Walmart/Target ever shut down no problem, and stocked up til the next century.
Febreze safely eliminates odors on fabrics and clothing. You can use it in shoes, for smokers, to eliminate cooking smells you don't like, for musty attic smells, damp basement smells and of course in the war against puppy pee. Do not use on silk. Febreze suggests you test a small area of the fabric you intend to spray before actually doing the big spray.
Febreze contains odor neutralizers, quality control agents, perfume and water. Do not spray directly toward your face. Rinse with water if it gets into your eyes.
Febreze has Clenzaire, a unique order eliminator, it claims to surround odors and sweep them away, leaving your home noticeably fresh. It seems to do this very nicely and I rely on this to deal with my dogs deposits.
Directions suggest that you spray fabrics in your home in a sweeping motion, you squeeze the bottles trigger and spray onto the fabric just until it is a little damp. Do not soak the material or fabric.
Febreze offers several different scents/types. Among those presently available there is their original scent, new allergen reducer, Citrus & Light, Spring & Renewal, Meadows & Rain, AntiMicrobial, Auto (For interior of a vehicle), Blossoms & Breeze, and Pet Odor Eliminator. I have just discovered the Citrus version and wil be trying it. I haven't been able to locate the Pet Odor Eliminator, the one I'd need most but will update when I do.
I use the small travel size for my car as I said but it also would be convenient to pack in case you stay in a room thats less then fresh. We tend towards dog friendly places if you get my drift. It also is available in 17.9 fl oz, 27.04, or even 33.8, so there is a size for any particular need.
