THE GREAT MARRAKECH MOPED INCIDENT
by JAMES23 | Apr 09 '02
When visiting the Kasbah I suggest carrying a fire extinguisher, or a spare moped.

Brushing grime off your jeans? I think not.

This fellow was taking advantage of his one opportunity (unless there's more you aren't sharing) to paw the fables thighs of JAMES23...

Actually my clothes were still reeking of smoke and camel dung when I cleared Canadian customs in Halifax and it caused no end of problems. But that's another tale (which I'm sure no one wants to hear).

Sorry to hear that feel that way. I however disagree. there is plenty of useful information about Marrakech here for those planning a trip there.
1-Prepare for unexpected emergencies (can be applied anywhere in the world as well).

2-Moroocans as a rule are very helpful people and also appreciative when you help them out in turn (again really applicable anywhere in the world).

3-Mopeds in Marrakech appear to be very fragile and flammable modes of convenience. Stick to camels.

For what it's worth this is bit one of many articles I've written about Marrakech and Morocco
in general here (and more to come). Hopefully you'll find the others less useless.

Thanks for the visit.

Well that's two guaranteed sales so far. Maybe I should talk to a publisher.

One very charred piece to be sure, but still in one piece.

Hi,
Love your article that's why I rated it very helpful...though it did nothing to educate me about a trip to Marrakech. Sometimes articles like this one are needed to break the monotony of advice pieces.

To that poor young Moraccan
There's not much to like
About a firey bike.

But he is lucky you came along. It was probably his first bike, too; The kid probably saved all his dinyas or rupas, or whatever thier money is called. to buy it...which proves stupidity is not limited to the U.S. My son's best friend (when he was 16) bought a dented Ford convertable. I was amazed when he and my son and two other kids drove up to show it off. It got in front of the house, slowed, and the three passengers leaped out, grabbed the car, and hung on until the kid switched off the ignition. It slowly stopped. It seems it had no brakes, and that was the only way they knew to stop the car. The worst thing was, they had practiced stopping on the way, and had it almost perfected.

Anyway I am glad you were there. I hope your jeans and shirt laundered well before you had to go through customs. (BBQ Berbers) I got it. (chuckle.)

at least that was my thought while I was reading about this local who was so "concerned" about your jeans.

As far as your book -- I could read about episodes like this over and over. Great story!

So Tom you think that guy might have been implying something other than simple cleanliness. Well that would explain his offer to join him in a steam bath after I guess (I declined).

More beer and cigar reviews, I don't know about that. I don't think the gourmet side of Epinions is ready for me as a befezzed one yet. besides I'm busy trying to regain my silly red hat in travel. Then I can go and lose it again by offending the Grand High Poobah in Brisbane.

(You can put me on your buy list. I'd want an autographed copy.)

What ho! Working on a book... gonna have lots of pictures? Gotta have lots of pictures. Funny ones, too, to match the action.

The guy slapping your jeans sounds kind of... friendly. he, he...

65th MOST POPULAR reviewer in gourmet... hey... write two or three beer or cigar reviews and I think you can zoom your way into the top 40. Only a handful of regulars write in gourmet anymore.

Cheers,

This in another "test excerpt" from the book. Why do I get the feeling that by the time I finally get it finished and work up the nerve to talk to publishers, I'll have posted the whole thing here and no one will want to buy it.
