The Bottom Line Not a lot of care required but maybe someone out there needs to know how to care for and maintain their garden hoses...
I recently reached a point in my life and while reading a review written by Naphtalia last night I came across her write-off entitled Milestones, although this might not be Epinions most read category don’t let it stop you from reading and giving your most generous rating. Living on a forty-acre farm for the past twenty-seven years has given me a chance to purchase, use and destroy hundreds of garden hoses and just yesterday realized I was hoseless . My husband informed me he was having one custom made and that was guaranteed not to split, rot, kink and most important…This hose can’t be chewed up regardless what animal sinks their teeth in it. How to Care for and Maintain Garden Hoses From the first day you bring that hose home from wherever you choose to buy it, its life expectancy is determined by the care you give it. Remove the cardboard surrounding it and the tie wraps holding that extra washer, now you have several options. You may want to use a hose holder mounted to a flat sturdy surface or invest more money in a hose reel on wheels that can be rolled from place to place or throw it down in the yard and hope you spot it before the mower cuts it in shreds. During Spring and Summer months your garden hose will be given its greatest test. To avoid a kinked up hose you might want to try rolling it in a figure 8 direction instead of the circle method, it is a little more time consuming but worth the effort. My biggest problem with garden hoses is our water pressure busting and splitting our hose anytime you put a spray nozzle on the end of it. My husband told me after several hundreds of split ones that he could fix the problem by putting a pressure reducing valve on the faucet, which I’m still waiting on. Another common problem with garden hoses is when they leak at the fittings, you can fix this simply by checking the washer. The washer is located on the female end of the hose and if hard, missing or damaged then it should be replaced. Last but most important, never run over a hose with your vehicle especially with the water turned on and a sprayer on the end of the hose. A Winter Tip When it is time to retire your garden hoses for the winter thoroughly drain all water from them, store rolled up and lying flat in a storage area that is dry and clean. Final Note I understand that Naphtalia’s Milestones write-off is a celebration of her 600 reviews and 75,000 member hits (now that’s a milestone) which if I ever reach that I will be hosting a Miracles write-off entitled It’s A Miracle. Please check out all the participants and a heart felt entry by Maggsmomm which gives true meaning to the word Milestone. azielinski yusakugo jo.com bluehawq reviewer12 gungian RadioGuy EdGrover ArtByJude erinrounds Faireheart cntaur5 Mattygroves Maggsmomm Telynor MaryTara Naphalia |
