When buying bagless, think DUAL CYCLONIC.

The Bottom Line Don't go to a discount store to find a real vacuum cleaner. Always go to a Vacuum shop and do research before you buy.
Purchasing a bagless vacuum cleaner is ever so hard in a market full of a variety of models by various manufacturers. When you are thinking about purchasing a bagless vacuum cleaner, it is extremely important that you choose one that utilizes Dual Cyclonic technology. There are three types of vacuum cleaners out there: Bagged, Dual Cyclonic bagless, and filtered bagless(the same as on a Shop Vac).
What does Dual Cyclone technology do?
Dual Cyclone technology is meant to provide more powerful and constant suction due to its dual chamber, dual cyclone design. Dual cylone vacuums, unlike bagged vacuums that can clog and filtered bagless that can also clog, is better at vacuuming up pet hair and fine dust particles.
Why choose a Dual Cyclone Bagless?
Only Dual Cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaners obtain such a powerful constant suction compared to bagged and filtered bagless vacuum cleaners. Dual Cyclone bagless vacs are much more better at picking up more dust and pet hair because there is not bags or pleated paper filters that can clog up by fine particles and pet hair which can decrease suction. Another advantage of the Dual Cyclonic design is that it keeps dust from clogging pre-motor filters of damaging your motor, making the vacuum cleaner last longer.
Why the Dual Cyclone bagless has no loss of suction?
The Dual Cyclone achieves what other "bagless" and "bagged" vacuum cleaners can’t, constant suction room after room. On a Dual Cyclone system, dirty air enters the first cyclone which spins out the larger dust and dirt particles. As the air passes from the first to second cyclone, the shroud is a vital dust and fluff separator. Even greater centrifugal forces in the second cyclone chamber removes more microscopic particles. This helps retain more dust and keeps it from cloging up motor pre-filters and damaging motors. This is also great for people who suffer from extreme allergies. This design is also great for vacuuming up pet hair since there is not vacuum bags or pleated paper filters that can be clogged.
Bags clog suction: How airflow is restricted.
When the vacuum cleaner bag is new and empty, clean air flows into the machine and out through the pores of the bag. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bag starts to fill with dust and debris. The bag acts as a filter and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the pores of the bag begin to clog with the dust that the machine has picked up. This restricts the airflow which can cause a loss of suction of up to 70%.
How "Filtered Bagless" systems clog like bags.
Lets use the Hoover Windtunnel Bagless and the Dirt Devil Vision as examples, which are vacuum cleaners that use a collection bin with a pleated paper filter to filter out the air that leaves the chamber. When the vacuum cleaner is clean, clean air flows through the bin and out through the filters. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bin starts to fill with dust and debris. The filters clog, and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the surface of the filter becomes blocked with dust restricting the airflow which can cause a loss of suction of up to 70%. In order to regain 100% of suction power on these type of bagless systems, you will have get dirty by dumping the bin and hitting the paper filter against the garbage can for about one minute, and in doing so you will get dust all over your hands, your arms, and your face. Let me just ask; What kind of vacuum cleaner forces you to touch your own filth? Answer- Hyped up vacuums that use the pleated filter system such as the Hoover Bagless and Windtunnel Bagless, Eureka Whirlwind and Whirlwind Plus, Bissell Clearview, Dirt Devil Vision and Platinum Force, just to name a few.
Okay, I agree! But which vacuums here are dual cyclonic?
As most of you might know, Fantom Technologies was the first to introduce dual cyclonic bagless technology in North America, but due to weak motors and poorly designed machines, Fantom went bankrupt by overwhelming customer servicing and warranty repairs. So if you happen to see any brand new Fantom vacuum at any store on clearance, I strongly recomend that you do not purchase it.
There is however a dual cyclone vacuum made by Eureka called the Ultra Whirlwind which is an excellent machine and can be found at or ordered by Authorized Eureka Dealers nation wide for $299 or under. There are two models. The 4880AT is the lower priced basic model and has no special features. The 4885AT is the newer Ultra Whirlwind and features a "Dirt alert" sensor and a Filter Sensor that lets you know when you need to rinse the pre-motor filter. Both models are excellent and feature a switch that turns off the brush roll for bare floor cleaning.
Dyson, the company that originally created the whole concept of the dual cyclonic system is currently established in England, but will be entering the U.S. market soon this year. The Dyson vacuums will re-define what a bagless vacuum is supposed to be and before you know it, everyone will know the difference between your typical walmart bagless and your shop quality dual cyclonic bagless.
Some of the vacuums I've talked about and not recommended to you may have high ratings, this may be contributed to excitement when getting and using their products, and then they come onto here and rave about their products. But when they get fed up with cleaning and washing filters and getting dust all over themselves in doing so, they will probably feel that they made the wrong purchase and totally regret what they ave done, and in some cases come back to this website and post negative reviews for products they've once raved about. Do alot of research before deciding to buy a vacuum so months after you buy your new cleaner you won't regtret your decision.
