"MH" because I felt that I was right there with you -- I think I could go in and buy a car right now! Too often, dealers do see women as "targets" to make their retirement accounts fatter, I believe.
On our last car purchase, I used the internet, similar to what you detailed, and came out $100 about dealer cost -- the important thing to know is that the dealer cost on the sticker is higher than what they actually pay. There are SO MANY other hikes involved that it's ridiculous!
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your daughter's new car purchase!

Thanks for reminding me about the earthquake - my good friend lives right at the center - I need to e-mail her.
I reviewed her car:) It is on my profile page - it is the Accent. Actually it was on my profile page but my profile page is messed up! I'll send in a bug report. I hope that's all it is. She gets great gas mileage..not sure exactly but something in the high 20s/low 30s. Not 50 like some, but good for her. She loves her car. There was just a recall though for something to do with winter. Luckily it isn't winter anymore and it didn't cause her any problems.
I did teach her to drive the standard. She picked it up in a couple of lessons and if you think I know why she wanted one...well...think about what 23 year olds want! I know I asked her and I am sure she couldn't articulate why (as smart as she is) in any meaningful way :) jo

I am one of those who cannot drive a standard so I wondered why your daughter wanted one when she cannot drive one yet?
Did you teach her afterwards? How is the gas mileage on her new vehicle?
Back in the early 80s my grandmother and I went to a dealer for me to get a car and we had a good experience. She was a business owner in that town and co signed the loan, which I later defaulted on but paid it off a year later.
PS I heard on the news last nite that the east coast had a 5.1 earthquake, did you feel it?
