Car Buyers Beware: This Inspection Site Prolonged the Slugged Feeling in My Stomach
by jeavinl | Oct 03 '06
Against my better judgment, my husband bid on and won a car on eBay recently. We still haven’t seen the car since we’ve run into a bit of a jam with CarChex, a car inspection place. Immediately after he won the bid, my husband decided to ...

Carchex Warranty warning! (Reply to this comment)
by jebnati
I've never used the Carchex inspection service, but I did buy a used vehicle warranty from Carchex. They gave me the runaround when I actually needed a repair. Apparently there are a number of others that have had similar experiences. There's a website that has a few examples of others' issues with Carchex. It's called Carchex Sucks ...here is the address www.carchexsucks.com

carchex of no value (Reply to this comment)

I paid Carchex $150 to look at a Toyota truck outside of Nashville. When I went to look at the vehicle myself, I found the report had missed major defects in the vehicle, including body damage, malfunctioning dashboard sensors and damaged brake rotors. And the seller told me the inspector never did a road test.

Carchex also never answered my phone messages or letters.

Carchex's report was of no value in assessing the condition of the vehicle. It's better to use a local shop to do a thorough mechanical inspection.

WHAT?! I had a GREAT experience with CarChex! (Reply to this comment)

I had a great experience with CarChex! It was the only thing that eased my concerns of making such a big purchase off of eBay. The vehicle I bought was in Springfield, MO and the mechanic handling the inspection was very detailed in his inspection notes. I received a very detailed document with around 30-50 images of close-ups of the vehicle even if there was any doubt it might be a problem. Although there weren't 30-50 things wrong with the vehicle, most images were there so that you would know the condition of certain parts whether in perfect condition or damaged. Needless to say, I was very overwhelmed by the detail of the report and the quickness; we received the report before the end of the next day after ordering it.

My CarChex ran around $96 back in April of 2008. I would TOTALLY recommend it for any purchases of vehicles off eBay or any auction/online site.

The person drove the car, checked all electronics (even the dvd player, navigation, sunroof, etc.) to make sure everything was in working order. There were even cracks in the mirrors of the vehicle that the owner replaced since the CarChexs personel pointed it out to them. That saved my $96 cost of the inspection right there.

I'm sure the location has a lot to do with what personel you will have inspecting your car, but I assume that all inspections will be the same since there is a CarChex report that has fields for comment on everything you would want to know about your vehicle purchase.

Like I mentioned, I wouldn't make an online vehicle purchase without using CarChex again!

Thanks for your time!
