brett_berg's Full Review: 2005 Chrysler Town & Country
This review concerns the Town and Country Limited model
We previously owned a 2001 T&C Limited and were very happy with it, so when Stow n' Go was announced in the 2005 model year we headed straight to the dealer and traded up.
The interior room, comfort, and amenities have all been terrific. The DVD entertainment system is probably our favorite feature, especially when we take long drives with the kids. The 7-inch screen is bright and crisp, and the sound system is superb. The remotely-operated sliding doors and tailgate are awesome, too. Stow n' Go is also convenient and practical, as well as easy to configure. The wife has emergency supplies and spare clothes stored there, and she seems to have no trouble getting access to it.
Of all the driver amenities in this car, only GPS navigation falls short of our expectations. Location search is mind-numbingly complex (using a knob to scroll through a list of letters), and the database of places and names is woefully inadequate. In actual use, we probably find what we're looking for 10% of the time. Also seems unable to search for places by closest proximity to your present position. You could be in L.A., enter "Target" store, and it'll return results from New Jersey. Compared to similar systems in Honda vehicles, this one just wasn't well designed. The map screen is pretty small too. Bottom line: if you want to see where you are, it works great. If you want to actually navigate from A to B, good luck!
And now for the bad news.....this car has had so many nagging maintenance issues that we've been soured on the whole experience and have vowed never to buy another Daimler-Chrysler product.
In the 18 months we've owned it, the car has been in the shop for driver side sliding door problems (4x), engine issues, and suspension problems. Yeah, it's all been covered by the warranty, but the dealer usually has to order parts and the car has been out of our hands for several days at a time. We're a family of five, and the other car doesn't have room for us all.
We really want to like this car, but are so fed up with the reliability problems that we're on the verge of selling it and getting a Honda van instead. Maybe we got a lemon, but I can't say we're getting much sympathy from Chrysler, and that's probably standard for Detroit these days. Little wonder the company is in trouble.
