| Prepoia's Full Review: Clorox UltimateCare Premium Bleach |
I was more than happy to see that Clorox has come out with a new product. Ive been married many years and have washed more clothing than Id be able to count and for my white loads Ive always used Clorox bleach. But, the old bleach did have a few drawbacks.
For one thing, some of my washing machines didnt have a bleach dispenser. That meant pouring the bleach either into the water before putting the clothes in; or it meant pouring the bleach into the water with the clothes already in the tub and therefore getting some directly on the clothing. I often collect a load of clothes in the tub before I add the water to it and wash them because it was easier. Many times that meant that some whites came out with bleach spots on them. I have well water and general yellowness is a curse I live with and thats why the bleach spots showed up. I have never found a bleach that keeps the yellow from hard water/well water at bay and that includes Clorox. However, Clorox has always worked the best for overall whiteness.
Another disadvantage of the regular Clorox bleach is that if I put in too much, it causes my husband skin problems and itching. He has sensitive skin and if I need and pour in a lot of bleach, I usually have to run the clothes through the washing cycle twice; once with bleach and then rewash it without bleach.
So, then, since I have a few disadvantages attributed to the regular Clorox bleach, will this new product replace it?
The new product is nothing like regular bleach. It reminds me of a liquid fabric softener in appearance. It comes in a nicely designed thick white plastic container. The container I had was 30 oz and they also offer a larger 90 oz size. The price is $1.99 for 30 oz and $4.29 for the larger size. The top of the bottle is a light blue color that matches their light blue label. I really like the pour spout which allows you to pour the liquid without splashing or you can measure it out using the cap. Actually, there will be no splash with this product. The UltimateCare bleach is thick in consistency. You can pour it directly into your bleach dispenser or you can pour it directly into the tub. You can also use it for spot removal by pouring it directly onto the spot or extra heavily soiled clothing. This is what I love about the product. It serves not only as a bleach but also as a spot cleaner. Id love to be able to tell you that every spot treated with this product disappeared, but I cant. It did lighten most and removed a few small ones. In this aspect, other spot removers might work better.
But, one thing this bleach offers that spot removers alone dont offer is that the clothes smell great and are softer. The odor of Clorox is very minimal and you cant smell it at all once the clothes are washed and dried. There is only a fresh smell (the manufacturer calls it Soft Cotton) emanating from the load of wash. I find it very nice and the clothes just seem cleaner and brighter. The company says that buffers have been added and I feel that these will make the bleach part of the formula less harsh on the whites that I wash. It states that it can be tested and used on some color clothing but I personally havent tried this nor do I plan to. Its not worth the cost of replacement to find out and the product works well and is cost efficient enough to use only on my whites.
If I was making a decision to use only this kind of Clorox bleach, the only problem that I see is that we cant use it for our well head. Once every few months my husband pours some Clorox regular bleach into the water system. This would work for that usage. I do believe, however, that I will replace the regular bleach with this one for my clothes. I dont ever use a lot of bleach in a load and this does as well as my regular bleach for stains and whitening. It has the additional plus of making the clothes smell nice and feel softer. For the extra cost, I feel its worth it. And the other really positive thing about using this bleach instead of the regular bleach is that it doesnt bother my husbands skin and I dont have to rewash my loads of whites!
According to the packaging the ingredients are:
Sodium Hypochlotite Bleach
Nonionic and Anionic Surfactants
Sodium Hydroxide
And it contains no Phosphates
This is one product that Id like to thank Fleishman Hillard for sending me to try. As always, Ive given my honest assessment of the product and I find it to be great.
After all of these years of washing clothing, I know that there is never going to be one detergent or one bleach or one spot remover or one anti-yellowing agent that will work for all clothing and replace all of the others. I will continue to use Yellow-Out for removing the yellow well water dinge; Zout spray for set in spots; regular Clorox bleach for well water cleansing; and All for my detergent. I have not reviewed all of these products; its just what I have to use to keep my clothes looking clean. But, I will most definitely add this product to my Laundry Room supplies because it adds a new dimension to clean clothes.
Do I recommend it? Yes.
