The Bottom Line I would recommend a front loader, just not the Maytag Neptune. Please folks, use the internet for what it's best at, Research.

I purchased this set march of 98, within 2 weeks I noticed mold growing around the rubber door seal. I called maytag and they said this was normal, are you kidding? If this is true why don't they tell you this before you by it. Now today we have noticed another problem that has obviously been going on for some time. The back of the door is developing a hole about 1/4 in wide and 9 in long. The machine is level, we check it about once a month because it is on a regular wood floor not cement. For $1000.00 I feel I really got took, I have been to other sites like deja news and have found other people with the same problems.

Maytag Mold Machine Update- What a true piece of junk. Now the tub will not spin because the door lock switch is
bad. We have to wring out the clothes with a mop bucket wringer before we can dry them and it takes about 2 1/2 hours to dry a load. Worse yet is the circuit board that
controls the door lock has a resister on it that burns out
( I'm finding out many people are having this same problem ) The board cost about $300.00. This resister is a 3.7K
resister and sells for about 35 cents. I did talk maytag into giving up the parts for free but they won't send them until there lonely repairman comes out looks at the burned resistor, charges me 60.00 and tells them it's burnt. Then I have to pay the same lonely man another 100.00 to come and
replace it. It's a good thing I save about 50.00 a year in water or I'd be just a little UPSET. By the way the new seal they put on is all moldy and it stinks, especially now that we can't drain the water out of the thing. Well thanks for your time. Wouldn't be interested in a washer would ya. Let it go cheap.

Update -
Repairman came today. Had to be away from my shop for 4 hours waiting for him. I told him it was the R11 resistor on the control board. He said he had to see it. He took the front panel off looked at the board, looked at me and said, yep that's it. That'll be $58.00. He was in the house 15 min. He said he'd call maytag and get the parts on order. He'll be back in a week to ten days to put them in. Another $100.00. So far we haven't had a working or none stinking washer for 3 weeks. I have to say Maytag has been good about repairing the machine, but on the other hand it shouldn't need it. My daughter is still using our first maytag. The washer is 20 years old and the dryer is 35 years old. The only problems we ever had with either is the lint trap on the dryer was very poorly designed and had to be replaced about every 2 years.
The repairman told me when the drum bearing goes out, and it will soon, the cost to repair will be about 900.00. Not for me it won't. I'll have the only front loading planter in Paxton,Ill and I'll put it in the front yard for everyone to see. For those of you who have these machines and have not yet had any problems, I'm happy for you. For those of you who are thinking of buying this machine, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. I could buy new clothes and through the dirty ones in the trash for less money than this machine is going to end up costing me. By the way, every other appliance we have, Dishwasher, Fridge, and Stove is Maytag and we love them. But the Maytag Moldtune, forget it.
Hope this saves someone from the mistake I made.
Jerry
