Air Wick Is Outta There!

Written: Oct 06 '06
Pros:Not applicable
Cons:Quite a few
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend purchasing this product at this time

Initially I purchased the Air Wick FreshMatic Automatic Spray so that my fiance could put it in his very large walk in closet as this is where the litter box for his two male cats reside. I was a little hesitant at first because $10 for air freshener seemed to be a bit out of range, but when I found a $3 off coupon I figured I'd give it a shot.

Setting it up took under a minute & required no instructions. Just pop the battery in & ensure that the nozzle lines up with the opening in the container & set the lever on the side to one of three settings (5,15, or 30 I believe).

Regardless I set the lever to spray at the least time interval between sprays.

Strike 1
After the initial spray it smells great, for all of about 10 seconds. The scent does not linger in the air to continue masking offensive odors & with my fiance's two male cats this is a serious hindrance in purchasing a refill.

Strike 2
The packaging says that the scent lasts from 30-60 days depending on the time interval that you have selected. I set the freshmatic that I had at my house to be the longest time interval hoping to allow my cat enough time to do her business before the freshmatic would spray again. Set at the longest time interval the spray lasted around 20 days.

Strike 3 - You're OUTTA THERE!!!!
Upon the first spray, I was startled by the amount of noise that depressing the spray lever created. This did not appear to bother my boyfriends two cats as they seem impervious to noise (as in even the 4th of July doesn't phase them). But, when I attempted to use one in my bathroom at home for my cat, she was so startled that she refused to use the litter box in that room until I moved the freshmatic to another bathroom that she never ventures in to anyway.

In debating whether or not to purchase a refill canister as I think Air Wick has the right idea in terms of their concept, I've decided to go back to the wall plugs from Bath & Body Works until Air Wick makes some improvements in the execution of the FreshMatic Automatic Spray.
