Babe, Babe!? Baaaaaaaaabe!!!!!

Written: Jun 09 '01
Pros:Impressive TV with amazing quality!
Cons:Have You Seen My Husband, Lately??
The Bottom Line: This TV gives you fantastic audio and video performance!

Babe, Babe!? Baaaaaaaaabe!!

What a devoted and loving (unthinking) wife I am. I bought this TV for my husband two years ago for Father's Day. Imagine what a happy camper he's been since then. Well, if you see him and have better luck pulling him away from it, let me know. He's usually plopped in front of that baby any non-working moment of the day, and is too enthralled to respond to my calls of, "Babe, Babe!? Baaaaaaaaabe!!!!! Lower it!!!" But that's ok. He's happy, and that makes me happy too.

This TV features a High-Contrast Dark Tint Screen With Built-in High-Contrast Shield The Dark-Tint screen improves contrast as much as 18% for bolder, richer colors. And the built-in High-Contrast Shield protects the screen from accidental damage.

The TV comes with a 2-Tuner Picture-in-Picture (PIP). We can keep one eye on each of our favorite shows at the same time. So while he's watching Braveheart for the 500th time, he can quickly switch over to Fraiser or whatever latest tv sitcom I happen to be wanting to watch on the big screen. The TP71H95 has two built-in tuners so you can watch two channels simultaneously. The PIP comes in two sizes: 20" and 13" almost like having a baby TV on the side. The PIP moves about the four corners of the screen wherever you might want it. And there's an easy swap from channel to channel.

The 37-Key Back-Lit Intelligent Universal Remote Control is just that - Intelligent. No more fumbling for the right remote control buttons in darkened home theaters...We even bought an extra one - for $75 big ones when my nephew almost put the original one by dropping it in falling asleep with the tv-on mode. The TP71H95 has a back-lit remote that illuminates the entire keypad for effortless operation. In addition to the preprogrammed codes for a variety of VCRs and cable boxes, this intelligent remote can "learn" the commands of other remotes in your system.

Additional features include:

560 Double Imaged Lines of Horizontal Resolution
Parental Channel Lock
Closed Captioning On Mute
Favorite Channel
180-Minute Sleep Timer
181-Channel Tuning
Picture Preference
12C Digital Chassis Clock
Icon 3-Language On-Screen Displays
Picture Preference

VIDEO ENHANCEMENTS Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan For an image that looks almost as rich and three-dimensional as "film".

We have two antennae input for optimal reception, three video input for DVD, WebTV, high quality, one color channel input and a digital tv input. We've thought about including the laptop and digital camera, but we haven't gotten around to it.

The only flaw that can be laid at the TV's door is some dot crawl interference over small patches of color. This occurred within the first year of the purchase. The TV repairman took it for a week, and when he brought it back it was much improved, but sill visible to the critical eye. It still needs some adjusting. This doesn't occur with DVD playback.

Jaws drop when we mention the size of this TV, and even though we're not sports fanatics, we have a lot more friends during football season!
