Correction to KWH calculation (Reply to this comment)
by marclal
Very good review, but your calculation of your local cost per KWH will result in a significant over-statement of the difference between appliance operating costs. The difference in energy requirements between two appliance choices will only increase the VARIABLE costs on your energy bill - those that have a rate per KWH. This provides the cost of EACH ADDITIONAL KWH, which is what you need to consider. The fixed costs will not change and therefore should not factor into your decision. To calculate, simply add up the rates per KWH (assuming they apply to all KWH's consumed) or divide the total costs of those variable charges by the total KWH consumed.

Electricity cost (Reply to this comment)
by w0kie
Here in Oklahoma electricity is considerably cheaper. Hydroelectric generation is quite cheap followed by coal generation. Natural gas generation, of which Oklahoma has a lot, is more expensive but doesn't smog up the air as much as coal. I never knew that door seals were part of the cost equation.
