Pros: Ability to preview material on a TV/monitor while editing.
Cons: Not as compatible as advertised. Troubleshooting information sparse and hard to come by.
The Bottom Line: If your hardware is compatible with the DV Raptor you won't find a better card for the price. It's performance is outstanding, and the software bundle is incredible.

| code_slave's Full Review: Canopus DV Raptor |
After having struggled with two previous video capture cards (the Pinnacle Studio DC10plus and DV200) I decided to give the Canopus DV Raptor a try. The Raptor has a reputation for being highly compatible with various hardware configurations (and for the price, on would hope it would be).
Unfortunately my system did NOT take well to the initial installation of the Raptor DV. While the initial hardware and software installation was problem free, I soon discovered that I could not hear the audio while capturing or previewing clips from my Sony TRV900 camcorder. After a few minutes of tinkering the problem was fixed, only to be replaced by a bigger problem - the video capture was choppy and the audio tracks were captured with an intermittent high-pitched squealing sound mixed in with them. In short, the captured video was unusable.
My advice - Read the lists of compatible hardware at the Canopus web site. You will find trouble-shooting information hard to come by on both the Canopus and the Adobe web pages.
Once the card is working it is a dream. I have mine set up to preview video to the monitor and to an external TV while I capture and edit. The software package includes Adobe Premiere, SoftXplode (transition software), and Raptor Edit, all useful tools for the at-home DV editor.
