Lemi Shine Works

Written: Oct 09 '06 (Updated Oct 10 '06)
Pros:Works spectacularly! Just as advertised.
Cons:None I can think of.
The Bottom Line: If you have hard water problems with dishes and/or your dishwasher get an online coupon and buy this.

We live in an area of Central Texas that has some of the hardest water I've ever experienced. We are intending on installing a water softener but our budget has required us to wait on that for now.

Since moving to this area we saw our clear glass dishes get increasingly "cloudy" as a result of the hard water. Washing them with hot water and vinegar helped at one point but over the past two years they got to the point where that didn't help. Dishwasher cleaner agents also had little affect. We also noticed a significant build up of scale/calcium in the dishwasher itself. Not only on the heating elements but on the sides as well. It was really bad around the detergent cup and rinse agent output on the door.

After trying nearly everything else, we came across the Lemi Shine product and decided to give it a try. This product is advertised to eliminate hardwater build up using a fruit based acid compound. It is supposedly effective against all types of mineral stains.

I was actually stunned at the improvement after the very first use. The dishes were almost entirely cleaned to a perfect crystal clear appearance. I also noticed a minimum of a 50% reduction in the amount of build-up on the dishwasher door and heating elements! Over the next few days, yes less than a week, the dishwasher was almost entirely rid of the build-up and our dishes looked brand new. We have actually caught ourselves being forced to do a double take when opening the cabinets because of the change in appearance of our dishes.

We have washed metal items, crystal, porcelain, teflon, etc., with no visible harm to the dishes. I am pleasantly surprised to actually find a product that performs as advertised. I highly recommend this product if you're in a hard water area or just need to clean the dishwasher for maintenance purposes.

This product is a granular powder that costs about $5 per bottle. This is enough for about 10 washings when using it alone. The product recommends using it straight for several washings and then reducing it to aprx. 1/2 of the detergent cup for maintenance. Considering the dramatic results I think it is well worth the price.
