This is a piece of junk, but I guess you get what you pay for, right?

This is the first espresso maker I have purchased myself, so I wanted to start inexpensive until I learned the art of creating a latte at home. Once I had/have that down, the intent is/was to move onto a more expensive unit where I can create my coffee masterpieces.
This did nothing short of disappoint. The espresso (coffee) making portion works well enough. The process is easy to do and understand, but a little tedious for 2 - 4 ounces of espresso. It is a little bit of a pain to have to bend down each time to look underneath the mechanism to locate the guides which hold the filter. It seems that this should just pop or slide right in instead of being a look and feel game to get it in place. Once that is in place, making espresso is easy enough. It brews in about 3-5 minutes and the moment the brewing is done, you are to switch to the steamer for your milk.
This is where you get what you pay for. I have done it by the book and have tried several variations to attempt at steaming the milk and achieving foam...nothing. The steamer does not work long enough to even warm the milk, much less create foam. Also, the steamer is a feed from the brewer, so you cannot just turn it on when you want...you have to brew espresso first. It certainly is not worth wasting espresso roast to steam milk. Paying $5 for a latte is almost better at that point.
Overall, this is a waste of time and espresso beans. If the steamer actually worked, I would think it would be okay for the small dollar amount, but I like my milk hot and I would like for it to foam and this little unit does not do the work.
I purchased an espresso maker by another manufacturer and it works very well...nothing like this Mr Coffee machine.
