I've had every version of the PC since the IBM XT (1983), plus all the peripheral equipment one can possibly imagine as I fashioned some kind of career in technology. I've never been as satisfied with ANY display, CRT or LCD, as I am with Samsung's brilliant SyncMaster 170MP.

In fairness, I also just purchased a new ViewSonic ViewPanel VE150 for a separate PC, which I like a lot (but that's another review). Samsung's intuitive control panel makes it a breeze to control any element of the display (including where you want the TV image to appear, and at what size).

Speaking of which, that may well be the thing that put me over the edge in buying this model. The TV input is ingenious. I work at home, typically sitting at the computer for 12+ hours each day, and admit to being kind of a newshound (I'm also a writer). CNN or MSNBC pretty much resides in the lower right corner of my screen a good part of the day, and it's actually changed the way I feel about my own work. I can stay in tune with the world without being distracted. It comes with a handy remote for muting and even titling (for when I'm on the phone).

As I have DirecTV satellite, for only $80 I bought a second receiver WITH an RF remote control--which means I can change channels, volume, etc, from anywhere within 100 feet of the satellite receiver while sitting at my PC. We're talking The Jetsons now.

The price shown here is way off--this monitor now sells for around $1300. Don't think twice about this one, you won't regret it.
