Zywiec Porter - Traditional Polish Beer
by 4-1-1 | May 21 '02
May be the biggest and best Porter from Poland. One of my favorite beers from Poland. Highly Recommended.

I have just returned from a trip to Poland and found that the Zywiec beer was the best that I have tried. Where can I get it in the USA

The wife and I had been in Poland Aug.2001 and enjoyed Okacim and Zywiec. I noticed a post about a place in Buena Park (California?)Who distributes Polish beer in this part of the country? I'd love to pick some up.

Hey, VH and all that, but... There's nothing here about Zywiec's pronounced bitterness, a much bigger hop presence than any of the other Baltic porters. Old bottle, maybe? Good review otherwise.

I just picked up a case of Dojlidy Porter last week in Rochester, NY, plan on enjoying it carefree-like for a while instead of hoarding it. I've got a couple sixes of Zywiec, and half a case of Okocim, so it could be real carefree. Good to see other people finally digging these beers!

Hello Talia,

Poland sounds like a great place to visit -- prices seem incredibly reasonable. It's the language barrier that would kill me, although I think I'd probably get by with my limited German speaking skills. My sister traveled there about 18 months ago before heading down to Romania.

Cheers,

Hey Nick! There's a Polish restaurant that I sometimes visit near a cigar shop in Buena Park. When I pronounce the Polish beer names, I also ask for the "correct" pronunciation and am always surprised by how far off my initial try at saying the name is.

My fiancee is Polish - from Gdansk, though she lives with me here in NY. The porter is awesome and I agree, well worth hunting down - Okocim makes some of my other favorite Polish brews. The real question Tom, is can you pronounce it Polish style? Another great review!

this beer can be had on tap in most local pubs, or in bottles all over. There is even *GASP* a non-alcoholic version available. Cost for any of these? 1.5-2 zloty (37-50 cents) a glass or bottle. If you buy it by the bottle, don't forget to bring the bottle back to the grocer for some of your money back.
