The Bottom Line There is nothing else like live music from Green Day, and to experience this feat is to have a personal epiphany.
I witnessed an excellent show on May 23, 2002 at the Hershey Park arena in Hershey, PA. Green Day's set followed Saves the Day and the infamous Blink 182. The energy given off by the punk stylings of Green Day was completely reciprocated by the fans. These guys truly put on a show from their back-up brass players dressed up as a chicken and a bee to Billy Joe's super-soaker used to relieve us of the heat. At one point in the middle of "When I come Around," Billy decided to form another "band" on stage. He chose an audience member to drum, another to play bass, and a final fan was chosen to play the guitar. After the huge joy each fan felt, the guitarist began showing off a bit and Billy was so impressed that he gave the boy his personal guitar. Afterward, each fan had to stage dive to exit the stage. It had truly been a memorable experience for many that night; myself included. The intense energy and unity felt among the fans as well as the musicians themselves was evident and made for a fantastic night which I will never forget.
