I've been trying to do that oral-genital stimulate thing (Reply to this comment)
by Horswispr, in Electronics
ever since I got demoted to Peon, but I can't get it to work. Now I know that even Sprint can't help me after all. This is a bad day. And my back hurts too.

A few more unhappy realities of Sprint PCS... (Reply to this comment)
by mickie79
I jointed Sprint PCS back in April, using a two-year-old Qualcomm phone (sold by Sprint) that a friend didn't need after upgrading. Unfortunately, a month after I joined, I found my battery wasn't holding a charge very long. The Sprint PCS site wasn't offering any accessories for this phone. Come to find out, Qualcomm sold their phone business to Kyocera, and Kyocera doesn't particularly want to service old Qualcomm phones, so there are no batteries to be had. I had three friends offer me their old phones (yes, I am cheap...), and I discovered the same legalized form of highway robbery you did--if you didn't buy the phone from Sprint, you can't use it on their network! Like you, this totally p*sses me off. Now I have 3 (count 'em, three) perfectly good phones I can't use on this network. What a racket!
The other fun thing you will discover, should you decide to switch phones, is that Sprint will charge you an additional $34.95 activation fee every time you do so. Surprise!
My only solution for these three Sprint-unusable phones is to turn them in to Radio Shack. They will take the phones until the end of July (even non-working ones) and give them to a network that refurbishes them and gives them to women at risk of abuse.

than that old unstylish Advisor's hat, anyway.
But that sure is a crock. I'm sure you'll get it back. They seem to be bouncing on and off a lot. Not that I have personal experience . . .alas, i will be a peon forever.
You made me laugh, yet again, sir JK

a scion of "old school" (Reply to this comment)

I have managed (in manners unbeknownst to me) to remain detached from the cellular world.
If it ain't landline, it ain't me.
I suppose one day I'll be captured and shipped off to a re-education camp.

Have You Considered? (Reply to this comment)
by Yarborough
Finding a consultant, an expert if you will, who could perhaps accompany you to the cell phone dealers so that you don't sign up for any sub-par products and services. :) :) :)
Once when I was cut-off, silenced, muzzled, disconnected, I was actually charged on my bill for the same minute twice. I want my $.44 back.
Don't you think that the AI advisor selection application is doing one bang up job? I think they really have something here that could make them windfall profits. Use the same routine to select Peons as a constant supply of MDs, surgeons and airline pilots. What you think?

The Reason I'M Always Russian: Dropped Signals (Reply to this comment)

Hi JK--
1. Your a very funny guy. Where can I get a fez hat w/o having to wait in a shadowy, Grand Poobah Lodge parking lot to roll Howard Cunningham when he goes out to his car?
2. I have Sprint PCS. It may just be a coincidence, but why does my face look like I'm having a conniption fit, even though I'm completely relaxed?

Wonderful poetry... (Reply to this comment)

I almost fell off the chair laughing at your terrific review. It's the first I've seen but I now must go back and read more. You're saying what all SprintPCS users are thinking, but you do it while making us all a little more educated and enlightened in the process.
Thanks, it was fun.

Clever analogy (Reply to this comment)
by Dr_Steph
Trying to make cellular phone reviews into a literary experience? I like that!
Sounds like Sprint is anything but sprinting - maybe limping instead. I would be so ticked if I had the kind of experience that you have.
I've only had experience with one cellular phone company but my luck has been very good so far. I have US Cellular and have had no trouble using the phone in Ellensburg, Yakima, Seattle, Oregon, California, and Hawaii (all covered under a 10 state plan along with several other states).
The only place I've had trouble getting service are a few places on Snoqualmie Pass and a few spots on the freeway between Yakima and Elllensburg (all those hills, you know).
I haven't traveled east of Central Washington with the phone (who would want to go there?) so I can't speak to coverage in your neck of the woods.
Hope you find something that works for you!
Thanks for the thoroughly enjoyable review. :)

You did a great job (Reply to this comment)

on this and somehow made a boring subject funny BUT I can totally relate. We have an archaic phone (doesn't even get caller id!!) and a provider (Cellular One) that has changed names or something. We are in the process of looking for a new provider (Sprint is out - doesn't service my location) and phone. This is worse than buying a car. Understanding the various plans, roaming charges, and whether or not the phone works is the question. Asking others is crucial and we need to do that. My daughter is in Atlanta and moved just 5 min. away from where she used to live. She has At&T. She literally has to get in her car and drive to the end of the street where she can get reception. And she is paying for this!! sorry for the tirade! jo

horrible commercials even when I thought they were telling the truth! For $42/month you are being SO hosed, my friend; are you planning to keep this service?

ATT mobile service in Boston. At least, that's what Epinions lists at the bottom of your review as an alternative. But then, it could hardly be worse, could it?

Sprint SUCKS! (Reply to this comment)
by thedragonweyr
And not just their PCS service either! They are still trying to get me to pay for a month of Earthlink that was automatically billed to my credit card!
But back to the wretched, falsely-advertised and highly-touted PCS mobile service. I specifically told the sales person that I would be traveling on I-64 and I-70 from Virginia to Colorado. They assured me that, provided I stayed on, or very near, those magnificent ribbons of concrete I would have crystal-clear calls. Bunk! I canceled the service as soon as I arrived in Colorado Springs and signed up for ATT PCS service (which works fine for me but may not be suitable for everyone).

And sadly, we've had about as much fun as you. Even more sadly, they're really no worse than any other cellular provider - they all stink.
However, since they provided ample fodder for your entertaining and eloquent skewering, I guess they're good for something :-).

Excellent review... (Reply to this comment)
by cjrmen12
We had an analog cell phone and took it on our road trips to visit my husband's family. It's about a 480 mile trip through the boonies where you're surrounded by acres of cattle, stench, and open fields and desert. The rest stops and gas stations are at least 60 miles away from each other.
What sucks is we bring the phone for emergencies and a couple of hours into the trip, we realize that roaming doesn't work that far away from our main carrier. Pretty helpful...NOT!! Good thing we finally found a PCS that DID allow roaming further than 30 miles from our home. So I understand your frustration.
