Is it wrong for me to tell you that after reading this, and your bio I am madly in love with you?

Do you have a light indeed.

How can my emotions not be completely and utterly captured by a woman who not only knows but loves calcio, is a fan of the Azzurri, and can weave KV references effortlessly through her prose?

You should come out to LA. I think you would greatly appreciate the sun. Oh, and I make an astounding lasagne, too.

Ciao Elsa

I read somewhere that the championship game between France and Brazil in 1998 was watched by one-third of the world's population, all except of course by America, which only drew a meager 5.7 rating on ABC. I'm not a big soccer fan, but every four years, my blood starts to boil for this sports event. I would love for USA to take it as far as possible, but my heart is always with gli Azzurri -- ever since my father introduced me to the World Cup when I was only 11 in 1982. Great story - and I completely identify with your World Cup Obsession and ardor. Forza Azzurri! Here's hoping for their victory over Korea on Tuesday!!!

Is what I say. In fact, I may risk off-topicness to bring some coverage to England's plight in the World Cup, I have yet to find a product that's something close to suitable. But keep your eyes peeled :-) Anyway, this was a very good piece - bringing some much needed exposure to the World Cup (not that it really needs any in most of the world).

Oh yeah, in case anyone doesn't know (ie. most of the US)... England beat Argentina 1-0. Now that's something. LOL...

I don't see any reason why you could not write this under Italian "something and something" in Travel category, but hey, if you chose soccer balls, let it be soccer balls. I hope you're feeling better after yesterday's game. I honestly was happy France lost, though no personal motive was involved. I heard of all these things different countries are doing for their people so they can watch the games during the work day and all. Doesn't apply to Russia though. So, I'll ditch work altogether. Kidding. We don't even have a telly at work, dammit. Naturally, I'm a huge football fan.

I'm not all too keen on Italian football, but I'm more than confident Italy will make it to the final game. Can't say the same about Russia, though. Argh. But who cares?

Nice read, enjoy the game!

... Sfere sante Batman di soccer! Nizza scrive qui, Elsa, molto piacevole.

I'm a bit rusty, have mercy. We almost took off out of here and went to some property in a little town out your way. I often times hope that we pick that dream back up and dust it off. :)

I'm with your boyfriend on this one.... not terribly interested in the old football.

However, we have a sweepstake at work, where we all get a team to support - each section has decked out their part of the office in their particular teams flags - the washrooms are Polish (complete with "Damski" and "Meski" signs), and the work kitchen is Japanese!!

My office is "Nigerian", complete with pics of Seals (to commerate the Nigerian singer Seal), and Sade!

In an atmosphere like this, it is easy to get swept away by the occasion, if not the game! Shame Nigeria have to play England shortly - I wont know who to support (being Welsh, I don't really care, although Englands striker Michael Owen is actually Welsh....)!!

Loved the review, just kind of hoped that I wouldn't be reminded of the game for a few hours :o)

I, too, don't give a rip about Soccer or its balls. However, I probably would be rooting for the "home team" if we in the US of A had any reasons to be rooting.

I'm thoroughly with you on the reasoning Epinions uses to list stuff. I can't wait to see what the new CL's are able to do. This was helpful to me in knowing what's going on across the pond.

Root away, and have a blast doing it.

I know, I know. I also find it hard to believe that an event that is reputedly going to raise $12billion has nothing featured here except for the videogame. I mean, you've got TV shows that can be rated, you've got an advice section on soccer, and you're not going to open a topic on "what you should know about soccer"???

I would have put it under the arts/entertainment category but I couldn't find anything close to it. WTF: is this a U.S. site only, and since the U.S. soccer team
is close to nil, you can't review it? Or maybe I should put it under local Italian customs. I'd get VH's out there, but I think it would be OT there.

Well, the absurdity of the Epinions system. What can you do about it. Life out there is sometimes much easier and far more enjoyable.

I did not find this review to be off-topic, at least you were not reviewing 'pork and beans' in this section.

Let me quote the epinions definition of the category "What advice can you offer about caring for soccer balls?"

Now I had considered that they meant soap, water, putting it to bed early, and not letting it listen to Eminem. However, you say, watch the World Cup and you will learn to care about soccer balls. During the tournament, millions and millions of people will care, passionately.

Thinks...

You know, that DOES fit the epinions category as they wrote it. It may not be what they meant, but it is what they said. Had they said washing soccer balls, cleaning soccer balls, or storing soccer balls I would have had to OT you. But they said "caring" and you definitely care.

Good Review.

Casey, hai ragione. Don't feel bad. I just needed to do this right now and I really don't care about the ratings. It was just that I had the urge to give some exposure on Epinions to what's rocking Italy, half of Europe, half the world right now.

I just got back to my desk after watching the first game.

France just lost against Nigeria.

AND! That's what counts. ! YEAH!

Ciao

This is my first Off Topic rating since the button was introduced, but I don't feel bad about that, because the OT button was specifically devised so a very well written and informative review that didn't really cover the topic at hand, (and editorial on the proper care and feeding of soccer balls in general), could still be acknowledged as such, and not receive the dreaded NH.

Otherwise molto bene!
