mattress buying (Reply to this comment)
by smith43
Ask questions and get good answers. Nit pik the bedding industry if you want but the consumer needs to take some responsibility also. Look at what you spend on your car or transportation per year, then look at what you spend on bedding. You might ask how is this relevant, well the average person spends less than 2hrs a day in transit and 6-7 sleeping depending on where you get your information, yet people expect to sleep wonderfully on a 799 queen set. Bottom line you get what you pay for. There are some great beds out there very well priced, just do your homework.

Re: Duxiana Rating Explained (Reply to this comment)
by NewsView
The "Very Helpful" rating I selected for the "Save your money" Duxiana mattress review has no bearing on the thoroughness of the post (in fact, it was a bit brief). The rating is, however, a response to the honesty of the person's experience.
If you read the comment associated with my rating, you will see why I tend to agree with what was written insofar as it collaborates what was advised to me by not one but two doctors — e.g. insufficient support can result in pain.
The post deserves some credit for not reading like an advertorial. That’s what earned it a “Very Helpful” rating. I am somewhat suspicious, after all, when someone gives an unqualified thumbs up to a product. (Is anything in life perfect?)
Consider: This site is just as accessible to PR and marketing personnel for their respective companies as it is to the public. With that in mind, I take everything with a grain of salt unless I can plainly see by the way in which a review is written that it is not "seeded" by a product manufacturer. Now the inverse could also be true — one manufacturer could potentially slam another's product using this site.
In the case of the Duxiana review, I do not believe that happened, however. For one, there are many valid points (from a medical standpoint) that his/her post does not attempt to address. A professional writer, on the other hand, would leave no stone unturned. For these reasons, I deem it to be a valid review, IMO.
One of the problems this rating system seems to have given rise to is the presence of a lot of "writing coaches." People seem to want to point out all the flaws in the review, particularly when they don't agree with the opinion expressed.
Keep in mind, the majority of these people aren't paid writers. It's unrealistic to think that everyone will have the communication skills or the time to make all reviews comprehensive. So yes, as ironic as it may seem, I don't expect a lot from nonprofessional writers. I don't feel it is my job to tell them what they already know — that they are not the world's best writers!
Consider: One person's "unhelpful" opinion is just that, an opinion. Another person may have the exact opposite reaction! After all, personal OPINION, is what this site is all about.

for a very interesting and most thorough text with most useful advice on how to buy a mattress.
However, I find it an utterly brilliant example of irony that an epinionator that wrote such a marvelous text on buying mattresses would actually rate the following worthless piece of trash review of a Duxiana mattress as "Very Helpful":

Yes, that's right. You are one of only two reviewers. And it is you, who caused it to be rated as "Very Helpful" on the overall.
Isn't that just a little funny? ;-)
