| surferdude7's Full Review: Motorola W315 |
The Motorola W315 is a reliable low cost phone that offers text-messaging, multimedia messaging, Brew and web surfing. This is a cell phone for someone who wants to use it as a phone with a few options on it. There is no Bluetooth or camera with the W315.
The Style!
On the outside with the rounded corners it looks like a Motorola-PEBL, but when you open it up you can see that it looks more their standard phones.
The model I have has a finished rubbery like surface, black in color and trimmed in a brushed silver. The left buttons on the side are for volume control and the lower one for turning on/off the speakerphone. Below the two buttons is a covered mini USB port for charging and data transfers. The right side button is for voice recognition and at the bottom is a covered earphone jack. There is a monochrome LCD on the outside that sits vertically instead of the horizontal position. The vertical LCD reminds me of many Kyocera phones. The LCD shows the time, signal strength, roaming, mail, battery life and more.
Opening up the W315 is mainly silver in color with a disappointing small screen surrounded in black. The LCD color screen is 1.8 inches with 128 x 160 pixels and it has good-looking color. The keypad is very much like a standard Motorola except for a few round keys for on/off and using the menu. What surprised me is why there is a speakerphone button next to the 4-way button and another speakerphone button on the side. The only place that would show fingerprints would be on the screen area.

My Thoughts!
The Motorola W315 is a low cost phone with limited features. There are a few birds and whistles, but no too many. Surprisingly many customers want a phone just like this because all they want to do with it is to make phone calls.
The ergonomics of the phone are very good for the size, texture for a good grip and good placement of the buttons for easy use. It is an attractive basic phone.
The main disappointment for me is that they could have used a bigger LCD screen. When you flip it open, you will see that the screen only takes up about 60% of the space, which also makes it look smaller. Most everyone I know wants a larger screen and here is a phone that could easily had a larger on placed in.
The best parts about the W315 are good reception and a real clear sound along with the min-USB charging port. It looks good, it feels good, and it works very well.
The W315 is a CDMA 800/1900 MHz and 800 AMPS cellular phone. Bench testing was average without any problems. Field-testing is more intense because of all the traveling that has to be done. In the field, it preformed flawlessly in all areas, even when it went roaming on another carrier. The sound and reception was equal to our test phone by which we set the standards.
I am not sure on the talk time and standby hours, but I do know when field-testing a phone all day, it pretty well zaps the battery to half way or less. The W315 had ¾ of the battery life left after its field test on two separate field tests. Good battery life comes from having less options to run.
Overall, it is a great little phone!
