In The Explosion
Jun 09 '02 (Updated Jun 22 '02)
The Bottom Line A reflection on September 11th, written on September 12th, published by local papers on September 13th, burned into my memory forever.
In The Explosion
In the explosion,
I saw the face of evil,
I saw the tears of man.
In the deluge of steel and stone,
Our blood like rivers ran.
From raging turbines
came the foul, shrill voice of Hell.
Our nation held its breath.
And when we dared inhale again,
we choked on glass and death.
Unmoved, unafraid,
Her torch more brightly burning,
Liberty, with stoic eye,
saw her people mesmerized
as hate fell from the sky.
And still
Liberty's hand juts
through billows of ash and pain
torch-hand like that of Zeus
brilliant like the love of God
for
the wounded
the dying
the hopeful
as we rise
again.
