Impertinent Thoughts On Pertinent Subjects XII

The Bottom Line n/a

Off we go...

* Has it really been a year already since I saw U2 3 times in a week? God that week seems like yesterday, and I'll never forget the end of the Saturday night show, as we all watched Ray Bourque raise the Stanley Cup on monitors in the lobbies...yeah, that was a GREAT night in Boston.

* It is unconfirmed that J'Lo's husband, Chris Judd, moved out because J'Lo's a*s took up too much space, and not because of any real problems between them, but if you ask me...

* So now Michael Jackson is whining about record labels as well...hey Michael, Paul McCartney called, he left a one word message: "karma."

* I have full intentions of going to see Weezer in July, but after seeing the lineup (Dashboard Confessional is opening), I can only wonder why they couldn't get Jimmy Eat World and Tenacious D back to support them.

* One of my favorite bands, the on "hiatus" Black Crowes, announced that they will release a two disc live album culled from the two Boston performances from last October, the last two shows they played before the hiatus. GOOD tracklisting note: Title Song will finally be officially released in some fasion. BAD tracklisting note: My Morning Song nor Thorn in My Pride made the cut. Both of those songs featured extra long jams. It just won't really seem like a true Black Crowes recording without at least ONE of those.

* Alanis Morrisette drew a whopping 5,000 fans to her show in Boston earlier this month...barely 1/4 of capacity. Yup, she's on fire. Hehe.

* OK, so Papa Roach is back to annoy us, and 3 Doors Down will be back annoying us again by the end of the year. Guess there's still no need to turn on my local rock radio station, huh?

* Lifehouse is coming back in September. Yes guys, you had your one hit, now please go away.

* Something a bit different: I'm offering a REWARD for anyone who tracks the song down for me. I've heard this song on WAAF here in Boston twice, both times in the car. It's Robert Plant singing, it SOUNDS like Jimmy Page on the guitar, but it's NOT from the Page/Plant discs, NOR is it Zeppelin. It's got this ultra catchy groove to it, and it's AWESOME. It sounds older, just based on production values alone (like 80s era) If you figure out what I'm looking for, I'll give a $20 Amazon.com gift certificate to you. Start looking.

* Speaking of Plant, his new album comes out in July, his first since his BEST solo effort, 1993's Fate of Nations. He's on tour with The Who this summer: good luck finding tickets, most of those shows are long sold out.

* Since the summer concert season is upon us, and I know all you people just LOVED paying TicketMaster all those lovely ticketing fees, I thought I'd link to this great article by Dave Marsh about TM...in particular, the fan club thing is a bit scary.

* When you're done with that link, check out this telling interview with former Aerosmith producer Jack Douglas, a longtime friend of the band, on his feelings about the musical direction they have taken, and the possible strain it's created on the band.

* Good news for fans of one of the best side projects in recent memory, A Perfect Circle. Once the Tool tour ends, Maynard will finish writing the lyrics and vocal melodies for the second record, due out early next year. Here's hoping this second album is as good if not better than the first.

* Speaking of new albums, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are back on July 9th with their new album. Forgive me, but why couldn't they stay away for just a little while longer? Californication became "the album I cannot listen to due to radio overplay."

* Also in new album news, Seattle side project Brad will release their long awaited third disc, Welcome to Discovery Park, on August 13th. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard is the main reason most people check out this band, but they are probably one of the better PJ side projects. Speaking of PJ, Gossard says they hope to have the new album out in time for Christmas. WOO HOO to that!

* And lastly, Dee Dee Ramone, may you rest in peace.
