Mac versus PC by pikaguy | Jun 10 '02 Any one of these areas could determine which one you choose. Unless your specific area of interest is something that can only be done on a Mac, get a PC.Return to opinion

Useless and puerile reviews. (Reply to this comment)
by cyberoid
I'm a professional who uses a computer constantly, for communications, entertainment, and processing. The basic bottom line with the Mac vs. PC debate is, how much time do you want to spend learning to use your computer versus how much time do you want to spend using your computer?
If the former, get a PC. It'll consume hours, days, weeks, and months of your time trying to get it right. If the latter, get a Mac. Plug and play simplicity, plus the incredibly powerful Mac OS 10 interface, and now the G5 chip -- unavailable when these reviews were written -- eliminate any category wherein the PC might have been superior.
With a Mac, in the past, you paid for the insanely great interace and the exceptional high quality of the hardware and software (of which there is an abundance, don't believe the PC makers' propaganda about insufficieny). Today, with the Mac Mini, even that is no longer true. For $500 and an old screen and keyboard, you can have very high-end Mac performance for the same price as a PC.
Again, the question is, do you want to spend time learning your computer or working with it? If the latter, get a Mac. If the former, you can join the kid playing games.

clearly you can't read.
he said a 2000mhz PC was cheaper than an 800 mhz mac, and faster as well.
he is correct. If you'd care to wager on it, i'd love to bet you a new computer. i can go buy an overpriced Dell for 2,000 dollars with a 17inch flat panel and twice the storage/memory/graphics power/speaker quality/drive ability, etc and buy a 2,000 dollar mac without a monitor and the PC will still be faster in 95% of operations, especially in graphics, supposedly the mac strongpoint. I work on macs every day. i am typing on one now. they crash. regularly. they are slow. they are expensive. they come in a pretty box. i guess it is all in what you are looking for...i have a feeling that most mac users drive old honda civics with 300lb bolt-on wings and ground effects and holy mufflers...

First of all i love my imac G4 and would'nt give up for a PC in a million years. Second were you high or drunk when you wrote this. Also macs run faster on fewer MHZ than PCs so a PC with 400MHZ is going to be slower than a Mac with 400MGZ. So i sagest that you get your facts straight before you open you BIG MOUTH.

PC or Mac comments (Reply to this comment)
by cherylllm
First off I love a PC and hate a Mac lol. Everything is ace backwords to me and 10,000 steps more to do the same thing as on the PC. I have them both, so I did try. I had great hopes of Macs OSX opening up to a world like PCs have but so far I don't see it.
You say better virus protection, well yes I guess so because there is just not as much ON a Mac or as many people on them as on PCs is all I see it. I have NET virus protection which doesn't seem to slow me down is always up to date, and I love it. So I feel pretty safe on my PC
Dependabilty ok I will give you this one, for SURE the Mac does last longer YEP. But take into consideration here, you have WAY MORE THINGS ON A PC to go wrong or conflict and then say which do I want? Less choice or MORE? I take MORE! Why? Well as I look at it BACK UP YOUR STUFF! You can replace things cheaper on a PC so what is the problem?
Games everyone knows is better on a PC that is just the RULE! but since I do NOT PLAY GAMES that's of no use to me.
Graphics, now this one means more to me, but God help me I don't see it. Macs are supposed to tower here?? All I can say is with all the choices of graphic cards, and softwares we have today open for a PC, how much better can it BE? The only thing I can come up with is Graphics as to MAKING THEM might be on the better side on a Mac, but I still don't see it because after you make them it's a bigger JOB USING THEM. Maybe the Mac is better (a tad) but again with the very BEST on your pc whose going to notice?
Noise, oh here I do NOT agree! My pc is so quiet you can barely here her run. My imac makes a lot more noise so here it just depends on the machine I think. Now my KEYBOARD is noisey lol, but I love it anyway.
OSX is wonderful I agree but where is all this CHANGE AT still waiting for Macs to join the WORLD. I have windows 98 why? Simply because xp which is nice does to much for ME, I like to do it myself, what and when I want, that is the only reason. Thus that sounds like a MAC doesn't it? You know Mac does it for you? Correct it is why I do NOT LIKE a Mac much. Like Iphotos, yes that's nice, I like it, but what if I want something else? What do I CHOOSE TO HAVE?
Style ohhhhhhh I love the neat macs look! But I will take my big case PC one that I can WORK IN myself with ease, and I am happy. Though I will admit would love the new flex imac on my desk, for what I do not know,,,.
Speed hummmm that's strange. I keep hearing some say Macs are faster? Yet I KNOW PCs are faster, and most agree, where does this come from? Are Mac people so silly that they think a 400Mhz is going to be a Gig pc? Please.
That brings me to another thing, Why do Mac people spend their whole lives trying to prove a Mac is BETTER. PC people are doing things they are busy and we don't CARE! Heck for the tad more you might get better, we will give it to you, hands down, now excuse us we have better things to do. Which brings me to ONE MORE BIG THING!
I have a friend who has Macs all over the house. Right up to the nice flex new one. And remember I have a IMAC. I have never in all my life seen so much UPGRADING, heck one spends there LIFE DOING IT! I live out in the country we do NOT HAVE CABLE YET! Do you understand this? Ok so most of the little updates are done yeah fine but we had to go to the sites many a time and upgrade, which SUCKS! You are on there taking up your time for 3 hours etc then get booted or the thing didn't upgrade at the Apple site right which is a pain in the BUTT! Gee on my PC I upgrade once in a blue moon if I WANT IT, and I have the auto upgrades also. So again I am happy doing things not spending MY LIFE UPGRADING.
Freezes are you joking? Macs freeze oh yes, but I will agree that OSX is great for NOT! But then so is XP. On another note of course the MAC WITH OSX is not going to freeze or have fault as much as a PC again THERE IS NOTHING ON IT NEAR AS MUCH AS A PC TO DO IT!
You did hit something right, find out what you want in a computer before you buy ONE! Try not to buy out of the stores with all that needless crap to bog you down on them. And try to learn more on the PC or Mac which ever you like before you open your mouth to down it. And Mac owners chill please. It's a great machine yeah yeah, but thanks I will keep a pc. You enjoy your way I will mine, but I'm not going to spend my life saying "MINES BETTER"
Now that that's off my chest, I bid you goodnight and sweet dreams be it Mac or Pc people!
