Life's Teacher

The Bottom Line The Great Mandela - the wheel of life - we all must get off at some point.
Life's Teacher
When I was just a headstrong lad,
he showed me how to grow.
And as I reached my teenage years,
he taught me to let go.
He showed me how to fight, to laugh,
that grown men too can cry.
And as his final legacy,
he showed how good men die.
I trust I learned the lesson well,
my Father taught to me.
And maybe – ah just maybe –
I'll be half the man as he.
So mark Dad's lessons – every one –
for each was based in love.
And if you do, he'll be content,
at peace, at rest, above.

It is nearing Father’s Day.
Each year our very extended family used to gather at my sister’s [SurgRN911] to celebrate the family, have fun, and basically enjoy life. Our Dad was the reigning patriarch.
I wrote this poem on the occasion of our Father's death.
It really was nine years ago – though sometimes it seems like yesterday.
SurgRN911 had this done up in needlepoint and framed. She sent it to me as a special present.
It hangs on my bedroom wall where I see it each morning when I raise my eyes. I hope SurgRN911 always knows how much it – and she – means to me.
Thanks, Sis
