The Bottom Line Everything I ever really needed to know....I learned in daycare!

Many times when a parent places a child in a daycare setting, they assume the caregivers only "babysit" their child. You know, they pay someone to occupy the child with noisy, messy things until it's time to take them home. Well, folks, that isn't always the case.

Now days, many child care centers are implementing a cirriculum into the daily schedule of the class. Cirriculum much the same as what a child would learn in a pre-k or kindergarten program in a public school setting. Numbers, letters, colors, shapes, and sounds along with handwriting, phonics, days of the week, months of the year, the pledge of alligeance, and many other things are being taught to the children in the daycare environment. While these skills are crucial in the development of the child in the first years, things like social skills and manners as well as resposibility and self-independance are equally important.

Contrary to popular belief, children in a childcare facility do not nap, eat cookies, color, play with toys, and run rampant all day. They are actually in a structured environment that is preparing them for the whole wide world that lies before them. Being a preschool teacher at a childcare facility myself, I am hoping to set the record straight and let the parents of the world know that their kiddos are learning something each time they walk into the classroom...even if it's only to put things back where you found them.
