Good stuff Mark.. but as a confirmed bitter drinker I fancy a pint of Boddies (but unlike Wulfy).. think I will nip down the hill to my local !
Never was quite sure where Theakstons Old Peculiar fitted into the great scheme of beers ?
Are you jealous ?

On the Ginger Man - have you been to the Flying Saucer downtown? pretty good selection of brews thereabouts, or was when I was last in.
On regional brown ales - How 'bout Blanco Brewing's Brown? dunno if it makes it that far east ;)
Tasty (though thirsty-making) review.

I often find bottled versions of Newcastle Brown to be skunky. Warms up badly... even nasty. Cheers,

Newky Broon... (Reply to this comment)

It's a strong beer, it's a bottle beer, it's the North's biggest sale,
For complete satisfaction drink Newcastle Brown Ale...
Mark, you sadist! I've had a craving for a pint of Boddy's Best Bitter for almost a month, and you just made it worse. I'm 3000 miles away from the nearest pub that I know that carries it. Sigh!

I totally agree with you. I think many people see the "darker" body and automatically think the beer is heavy.
I actually find blondes much too bitter to be a summer drink. I prefer brown ales and just recently got into some cream ales which are fabulous.
Kudos.
