hmm... (Reply to this comment)

your writing is VERY amusing in it's simple ignorance. you claim to have researched japan and yet your article is full of misconceptions...
let me first say, your haiku are indeed quite humorous, but it doesn't seem like you made a very good effort to research what a haiku really is. haiku have nothing to do with rhyming, but you did do a good job of painting a quick simple picture, for someone to view in a new light :) even though they are cliche as hell. also, in english it is understood that you do not have to adhere to the meter, it is easy to do in japanese, very difficult in english.
"First off, there are only seventy-three words in the Japanese language, and not one of them rhymes with any other." where the hell did you get this from? there are thousands upon thousands of words in the japanese language and of course, dozens of rhyming possiblities. i don't even know what to say about your comment.
also, sushi is kind of a joke in japan these days. in fact, they eat more red meat in japan than any other part of asia. it seems to be something of a rebellion agains their buddhist traditions. it is well known that if you say the word "vegetarian" in a restaurant in japan, you will get laughed at by half the restaurant, including your waiter. they're crazed with meat over there, i tell you.
grrrrr, for some reason i just simply cannot find these jokes as funny as everyone else seems to... i apologize if i came off as an anal retentive weiner (?!) but you could have at least added a bit of truth and less goofed-up info at the end.
if i WAS a samurai i wouldn't behead you, i'd laugh heartily at your idiocy and offer you more sake.
i am afraid of americans.

You must come to San Francisco and talk to my bonsai citrus into not growing so huge, please!
Thanks for the fine humor and the haiku, mate. Cheers. A.

You're a scream. Please don't stop your research into other cultures. Now what's up with that roses are red "haiku"? Not enough syllables!

Loved this!
Most enjoyable.
I've run out of syllables and if I'm not careful, I just might rhyme something. Now, what in heck rhymes with syllables anyway?
Thanks,
Lorace

While I was peeing, I thought of one:
Fair Porcelain bowl
Object of beer-drinker's lust
Urine or Coors Light?
Great coverage of a timeless poetic form.

The Writer's Corner (Reply to this comment)
by thedragonweyr
has got to be one of the smartest things the Epinionated Guys have done since they...er...since the time...since we were allowed to...since getting rid of the 'Most Helpful'...now that was a good thing, wasn't it? But it pales next to The Writer's Corner. So I figure we will lose it in the next week or so.
Really funny stuff, Rich! And normally I find Haiku written by westerners to be silly and pretentious.
