If a mans home is his castle, I dare say his car is his playroom; a place where he can express some of the boyish fantasies that we never really outlive when it comes to cars. Sure some of us suppress these urges to go out and buy the car of our dreams in the interests of making tuition and mortgage payments. But, be it a Porsche 911 or Chrysler mini van there is always something of that boyish allure that draws to the surface in many subtle ways expressed with everything from flashy accessories, sport racks, shift knobs and the like to the old favorite an immaculate, sparkling clean ride, the hallmark of every true car guy. Now for all you gals reading this excuse the lack of gender appropriate expression here for I can only speak to how it feels like from a guys perspective, but I am well aware of the legions of ladies who are car nuts. So, go out and write your own piece!
Recently I received a package containing two bottle s of Simply Wow Products to review. I have to say I has a slanted tendency right out of the box to like these products based on prior experience with Simply Wow, but in the interest of a fair and objective review, I put those feelings aside and rolled up my sleeves to put Tuff Buff through its paces on my SUV. .
Simply What?
Simply Wow Tuff Buff is a cleaner designated for paint wheels and chrome. Simply Wows claim is that it:
1. Restores factory shine
2. Removes bugs & bird droppings
3. Safe on black chrome
4. Safe for aftermarket tint
5. Leaves no residue in seams
It further claims it is:
1. All organic
2. Contains no Acid, Hexane, V.O.C.s or Silicone
3. No Petroleum distillates
4. Safe for all paints and surfaces
Along with some flashy packaging it promises it delivers the results you have been looking for. WOW, that claims caps them all!
The Acid Test
I love my SUV, a statement that stirs emotions that you have to be as careful about as touting fur on 5th Avenue in the Big Apple. That said, I use it on road, off road; it gets a true workout befitting its value. I also love to have a clean vehicle and over the years have honed the wash polish, wax and buff regimen that leaves a mirror shine befitting a true car guy. Given the promises of Tuff Buff, past experience and with the Simply Wow cleaner, degreaser product http://www.epinions.com/content_213430472324 that I incidentally still use; I was ready to try this one on my ride.
I like going to the Poconos on the weekends. Summer expeditions to Ricketts Glen State Park turn into winetr ski outings to Camelback & Blue Mountain and with all the muck that invariably collects on the car, I really want to like a quick cleaning solution, as the Simply Wow product promises. For now I am looking at some rain and light dirt on the body of my vehicle. There is a nice coat of wax on so this should be a walk in the park for Tuff Buff. I grab the hose and rinse off all the dirt particulate and sponge off most of the grime. I am looking to work on horizontal surfaces to restore that buffed appearance. Immediately I am struck by how Simply Wow Tuff Buff clear and runny the product is. You have to chase it across the hood to keep it from running off the hood! A dry soft toweling yields little in the way of additional shine and in fact I would say it diminished the shine a little, restoring a gloss only after a lot of elbow grease. I dare say that effort was the result of burnishing off the Tuff Buff and getting back to the Mothers wax. So far this experiment is a bust. Grade D
Chrome was next, and I hit the mirrors hard and fast; I had to, e this stuff is runny. I tried putting on a cloth and rubbing it in, but I really didnt get much satisfaction out of the exercise. What gives here? Black chrome was next and while it did clean bumpers, it left no shine behind. Well, I could have gotten the same result with water and a dose of Armor All! Grade D-
Okay wheels next. I like to spray Armor all on my wheels and leave it on without buffing to keep an oily film on the wheel; it makes controlling brake dust so much easier and keeps the factory painted wheels new looking fresh off the showroom floor. Needless to sat it produced no real results worth crowing about, so I took the product to my neighbors 5 Series Bimmer; wow, brake dust heaven! I sprayed a healthy dose of Simply Wow Tuff Buff onto the wheel and waited a few minutes. While it worked to clean some of the external dusting and dirt off the wheel, it did shine a little. My neighbor brought out his Eagle product and it produced far better results, though brake dust left on for a while just pitted the wheel, but there was no denying the results were better with the Eagle product. Grade D
The Long And Short Of It All
I really wanted to like Simply Wow Tuff Buff, I really did. It had such promises and made such grandiose claims, and it left me wanting so much more. I am impressed that it is all natural, with an environmentally safe ingredient list, however, the claims that Simply Wow makes are a little overstated in the real world. Perhaps a car that is lightly dusted would be a good candidate to show off the benefits of Tuff Buff that, unfortunately is neither my vehicle nor my real life circumstances.
A claim I have made before and stand by is that I will not use a product that is not multifunctional, because I refuse to have a ton of needless chemicals around my house. While some of the claims made by Simply Wow Tuff Buff may be true, the point is moot, the product does not pass the acid test. You need to bring youre a game if you want a place in my cleaning closet. A far as I am concerned, and much to my chagrin I might add, Simply Wow Tuff Buff failed to bring out the boyish smile so many other products have after I have used them on my car. No this, is not a game; at best its a scrimmage.
I thank Source Direct for allowing me to try Simply WoW Tuff Buff in exchange for my honest opinion.
