Casio data bank watches

Pros:Very handy
Cons:Extremely difficult to replace battery - must mail to "authorized" center.
The Bottom Line: This would be a great product if they made battery replacement simple. As it is, it is impossible for other than their Eastern or Western Authorized centers to replace them.

This is either my 4th or 5th databank (data bank) watch. They serve my needs well since I store crucial information in them and travel in areas with little or no computer access. I cannot fault their functionality, performing exactly as advertised. However, today I reached my frustration limit.

It is nearly impossible to replace the batteries. As advertised, the battery will last about 2 years. By the end of this time the watch is full of essential data. Each watch has proven successively more difficult to do battery replacement in (a CR2016 - about $3). After working on my latest for 3 hours on 10/24/06, and being unable to get the battery cover open, I called the Eastern Casio service center for help. After an extended period of time I was informed that the watch must be mailed in since they do not have (or at least will not give out) any information on opening the battery cover. The manual says: Take it to any authorized Casio Dealer. Well, I do not know of one in Southeastern US and the only person I know of who took the watch to a jeweler who claimed to be able to replace the battery had a useless watch on their hands.

If you intend to store critical information in it for more than 2 years and use it for more than a toy, this is not the watch for you.
