The Cooperstown Motel Is A NightmareJun 18 '02 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Do not ever stay in this motel. It is deplorable. It is dirty, the ownership doesn't care and they completely misrepresent it. I have just returned from a night in the Cooperstown Motel (Cooperstown, NY, USA) and I must say it was the worst travel experience of my life. Upon seeing the motel from the road, I was disgusted by its outward appearance. It looked like a junkyard. As I approached the office area, I was further disgusted by the stench of beer. I then proceeded to the office, where I was greeted by a clerk dressed in an underwear t-shirt. I should have cut my losses and left right there, but I knew I would never get my check back from any establishment that had so terribly misled me from the beginning. So my wife and I decided to make the best of it, as it was our son's birthday and he was anxious to see the Baseball Hall of Fame. I would soon regret this decision. To get into my room, I went through a screen door that was stuck to the door sill. The room I entered was dank and musty smelling. The carpet laid on the floor did not fit the room, so linoleum that was laid underneath it showed through in places. The linoleum itself could only be described as patchwork, with pieces of at least three different patterns laid down, both underneath the carpet and in the bathroom and sink areas. The lamp in my room had a burnt out bulb in it. There was no art on the wall, only some shoddy mirrors. The toilet took forever to fill once flushed. My two year-old had to be kept in her playpen because when she did step on the floor in her bare feet, they were black with dirt from just walking across the room. Upon awaking in the morning, I found a knotted, soiled cord from blinds in my bed, under the covers, making me wonder when the last time they changed the linen was. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT. I was so repulsed I slept fully dressed, on top of the linens. They do not have remotes for the TV. The TV is connected to a wall switch (that's the stupidest, laziest thing I have ever seen). The furnishings were from the '50s or '60s, at best, and in poor shape. Outside my room, one parking spot away from my car, they had a wrecked vehicle loaded with trash. Beside it, several more vehicles which appeared to be abandoned, were parked, including a camper. What a nice sight to look out on. The short walk they promised to the downtown and Baseball Hall Of Fame (their chief selling point) turned out to be 3/4 of a mile. Another galling misrepresentation (they say it is 2-1/2 blocks). They bill the place as a "family motel." Their family atmosphere turned out to be a room where you can't even take your shoes off for the dirt and people yelling in the parking lot till all hours. They don't take credit cards, so they have your check and you can't get it back. The condition of their "motel" makes me wonder if they have ever invested three cents in this place. In relating our story around town, we were told that they have the worst motel in the area. They sure do. Unfortunately, they attract a lot of people, apparently with their line about being one of only two motels in the village. Many of the people there were families who had come to play in baseball tournaments and had no idea what they were getting into with this "motel." The sell is a long cry from what you get when you check in. |
