Be passionate about your destination; make me yearn to visit! If it was horrible, then give me all the gory details so I'll know if I want to visit.

Great Tips!! (Reply to this comment)

I really enjoyed reading your review. I also never seem to run out of interesting travel experiences. I guess it helps keep reviews compelling when that's the case though. Thanks for sharing what to do and not do though, it really helps!!

...I especially liked your sentence that started with, "Bring out your watercolors.." You have a very creative and informative approach that captured my full attention.
Thanks Pam, -grey002

The thing about travel is I always find myself writing too much! I always end up editing down and then I am worried I left something out!

In hotels it is the pillows that do it for me! I never can sleep on FLAT pillows and hate it when there are no extras and you have to call down for more!

Oh, and cold pools ~ I HATE cold pools! LOL

Thanks, Tom.

I've been meaning to talk to you about that.. LOL!

I was working in the purchasing department of a large hospital while pregnant with my youngest child. The purchasing director asked me to test the various brands of TP he was thinking about buying for the hospital. I was the official TP Tester from then on!

Thanks, Kate!
Can't believe I forgot to include that. Guess I was too busy focusing on the TP!

I have revised to include that information.

Excellent advice! (Reply to this comment)

Can I add one more thing? Sometimes when I'm reading from the just in section, I click on a review and I have no idea where the location of the location is. (Did that make sense?) For instance, amusement parks: I don't know where every amusement park in the country is and the epinions category doesn't tell me. Unfortunately, very often the reviewer doesn't tell me either. This happens for other kinds of reviews as well; smaller cities outside of the US aren't necessarily familiar to me, and I imagine the same would be true for smaller US cities for non-US citizens. So PLEASE, tell me where the place you're reviewing actually is!

thanks,

Kate

one of my biggest quirks (Reply to this comment)

is the lighting in a room....I hate when I can't read in bed....I think I always mention that in my hotel reviews...Your suggestions are terrific and right on the money...sometimes though ,on along trip when many hotels rooms are involved I do forget bathrooms unless they are extraordinarilly great or terrible...

Thanks and take care...oh, oh, I just thought of another place I'd like to review. Off to your suggestion box!

dank and dingy bathrooms! (Reply to this comment)

Wow those are the worst....

What I personally like to know is if the writer has frequented the hotel/location, etc. say on a yearly basis how the place/service has evolved over time and if accommodations have upgraded, service increased, etc.

What I have a hard time finding within many reviews is just how recent the member flew on that airline, visited that resort or hotel. I would think if it was five years ago the member should get current rates, etc. and post for those researching the area to stay as close to here and now as possible.

There are many that read like travel brochures and history of the place, but no real feel to the taste of the food, the service received, the tipping recommendations, best times to visit the pool, etc.

It would of been nice had this site been around when I drove across the country back in 1996 because I spent 11 days on the road, seven months pregnant with a one year old. I stayed at some nice establishments that helped with crib setup and made sure the refrigerator was working for bottles, etc.

Anyway a nicely detailed how to write in travel piece. I like to read where I will probably never go, but circumstances could change.
