as far as the woman thing goes... its a fairly commont thing for women to be killed if they have shamed their husbands. for a woman to even have been accused of cheating is grounds for stoning. p.s, i hope the war on terrorism is mre successful than the war on drugs

Re: War on terror or Politics? (Reply to this comment)
by stockholder
What good is a super power if they can't help people around the world. Women are the best thing on this earth. The U.S should stomp any group of people that harm women and strap bombs to their backs and kill innocent people. I don't think Israel are saints by any stretch, but I don't think they're a nation of thugs and woman haters.

I rated this VH, so most of us get to see.
If you believe the Pakistani raped-woman stoned story, then mate it's your lucky day 'cause I've got some ENRON stocks to sell you!

Blimey, mate, was this a satire I didn't get?
I thought democracy was all about DEMOS (people) being the CRATOS (government / country).
So, unless I am very stupid (just might be the case), toppling an elected leader (as US did so many times that serious historians lost count) would be nothing short of a FASCIST INVASION. Any idea on the Casus Beli (reason of war) for Hitler to invade Poland? Read, mate, maybe (just maybe) I’m not as stupid as I seem to be.
“Cowardly suicide bombers” ..? Did you think long that string or just popped up as you typed?
Outraged at 9/11 is one thing. Letting TV do the thinking for you is another.
(Being close enough to Kosovo I got to see uncensored, politically incorrect footage about what Pax Americana is all about and marveled at how mainstream media can make Hell look like a Hawaiian beach. We also got some 200.000 refugees to feed.)
You cry at the toll of Israeli civilians? Me too. Do you cry at the toll of Palestinian civilians? I do. If you don’t, maybe it’s because you don’t get to see that toll. You might want to switch the TV Network to a less censoring one, they might not feed you the info on a need-to-know basis. We all go berserk (I’d like to believe) when we hear “murder”. Truth (as history points out) is always somewhere in the middle.
Anyway, while I totally and utterly disagree with your view, I also defend with all my being your right to make it public.
Now tag me as “terrorist lover” just because I believe “coincidence” is short for “it’s a long story and you don’t really need to know more about this”.
What am I going to read next, nuke the towelheaded b@stards?

If I were president of the United States of America, I would encourage Israel the forth-largest army in the world to crush and destroy anything that resembled terrorism. I would send 100,000 American troops to help stop these cowardly suicide bombers. I would chop the balls of anyone that was caught with so much as a firecracker. I would arrest anyone that even mentioned the words bomb and martyr in the same sentence
This is precisely what Mr. Bush is doing. He's hungrily trying to face a huge problem that Heir Clinton completely avoided due to his cowardly lying ways.
And, you're right about women being treated horribly. One of every seven women in Afghanistan dies during childbirth. That is staggering.

I also feel Israel has no choice but to fight back. If my last name were Sharon, I probably wouldn't be using tanks for all the world to see. I'm sure each of those Hezbolah creeps we see on the news, you've seen them with the black and white tablecloths on their head and machine guns over their heads, have a name. Maybe Mr. Sharon should be taking names. They also sleep at night with their eyes closed...

Wonderful commentary, SH. No humor this time, for there's certainly nothing in the world funny about the problem(s). It's heartbreaking.
One has to wonder why in heaven's name people have to hate and maim and kill one another. Life is so short as it is.
I do back the president and figure that there must be an awful lot that we do not know - this has helped delay things, but I seriously pray that he will make the right moves.
Thanks for writing this. It is needed. And when do you leave? lol.

This time, Stockholder - (Reply to this comment)

I have to agree with you. The situation reminds me of the old Gene Autry westerns. "I'm gonna get the varmits who did this dasterdly deed. I promise you, I'll get 'em. I swear on my mother's head, I'll get 'em. But before I do, I'm gonna take out my gitt-are, and sing you a little song."
About women, I agree about sending over the women who are having PMS. But if you can't send them - send their husbands - who will be anxious to go just to get a little peace and quiet.
And now, that I am finished with being silly, I have to say I think you are right.

Not much problem solving, let Israel destroy the people harming them. I think your right U.S has been trying to help for decades, that could be the problem.

From Nixon on forward... no progress.
I don't understand the restraint sometimes. If a human-bomb terrorist blew up a filled bus in Los Angeles during rush hour... we'd all be madder than hornets and would do something. We certainly wouldn't allow anyone to handcuff us.

In fairness to Bush (Reply to this comment)
by fuche_bu
the problems in the Middle East go back for centuries. It would be naive to think that Bush can come along and solve the problem overnight. Do I think Bush is a politician like all the others? Absolutely. But if it wasn't him two stepping, it would be Gore or someone else. It's a situation that goes beyond mere political maneuvering. The people in these countries need to rise up and better themselves. Great, thought provoking review,

the families of the suicide bombers receive money
from the government for these attacks. I think it's a shame that murder is being rewarded.
