When I told... (Reply to this comment)
by Caprig
....my husband what was happening on 9/11 as it was happening, he began to freak.
It seems that last summer, he worked in a home where he got to talk with the people quite a bit. He spoke with the woman, an older woman, who was telling him about her son.
His photo was on the mantle. They had a long talk and she seemed very distressed. She told my husband that she begged her son to leave Cantor Fitzgerald at the WTC because she felt he was no longer safe there.
Her son kept telling her there was nothing to worry about, but she was seriously upset about it. He told her that he loved his boss and the job too much to leave.
Of course, he was one of those who died that day, after calling his finacee on his cell phone, the building collapsed.
Freaked my husband out so badly, because this guy's mother had been so upset about him being there, if he had only listened to her- and she has to live with that the rest of her life.
So glad you took the time to write this- it is good to reflect upon now and then.

Cantor Fitzgerald (Reply to this comment)
by glomarrone
Hi,
I lost a cousin to 9-11. She worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. She was on the phone when the plane hit. Her body was never recovered. In fact one of the TV magazine shows highlighted her and showed clips from her Memorial Mass that I attended. It was of little comfort. She and her husband were about to adopt a Chinese baby girl. They had only been married a year. Too bad! How sad this is for everyone! I enjoyed reading your piece. It is very well done.

Unfortunately... (Reply to this comment)

One of the major network news anchors--Dan Rather, I believe--was on David Letterman a few months ago when he said he had just returned from San Francisco and that people on the west coast had started to move on. That's not too surprising, since it wasn't any of our landmark structures that were attacked and the WTC and Pentagon are about 3,000 miles away.
Your vignette reminds us that New York is still reeling from the aftermath. Those of us who weren't directly affected by that obscene event need that.
I second the comment that thanks you for sharing.

of a miracle. I can only imagine what you went thru anticipating the call and I can empathize and be happy for you. Miracles are so few and so far between, aren't they?
Great review,
