I Loved Paul At 12 and I Love Him at 53!Jun 24 '02 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I was twelve and then in a flash I am fifty-three. If I could go back in time I would have kept those albums in mint condition, HA! I often get invitations from Harrah's Casino for free nights and concerts because I am a good customer. I love to see how many lures I can get in a row to go Reel Em In or I will spend a bunch to see four cards of the same kind line up and let me hear the clink, clink, clink that I will surely put back unless someone shakes me and physically drags me away,(if you don't know what I'm talking about you are safe and probably have a savings account, ha) On a beautiful day in late March I went to get my mail out of my post office box and there was an invitation and offer waiting for me. I opened the letter and it said I was invited to see Sir Paul McCartney in concert at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Well some people wouldn't understand my excitement because they weren't twelve years old and sitting in front of the television hearing Ed Sullivan say Ladies and Gentlemen herrrrrre are THE BEATLES! I would sit and rock back and forth to the songs looking at The Beatles sing and trying to decide if I wanted to marry Paul or John. Fast forward to me sitting with the letter from Harrah's in the Post Office parking lot looking dazed and making plans already. I am a fairly independent person with a boyfriend who doesn't like to spend more than a day gambling in Vegas or anywhere for that fact so he was out of the question. I will be getting two nights room with the two concert tickets. What a decision, who do I ask to go? It has to be someone near my 53 years of age to really appreciate the impact of this concert. I finally made a decision to ask my friend Connie who I don't see often but who I know would love this opportunity. I was right, when I asked her she was thrilled. We made reservations and before we knew it the time had come to board the plane to Vegas. When the night of the concert arrived we went in to the MGM Grand and found our seats. They were up high but any seat to me would have been wonderful. The MGM Grand is laid out so there are monitors and you can see the performer up close as they sing. The concert was on Saturday April 6 at 8:00 PM. The act that lead the program and the music was almost surrealistic. There were circus type people like a weight lifter, Japanese warriors and princesses with swords, a man with a top hat and umbrella, and many other unusual looking people. The music was drum beats and tympany and other strange sounds. These dancers would weave through the crowd like they were in search of something and the special effects all around were unbelieveable. This act went on with special effects and gigantic balloons for almost twenty minutes, finally a big clash of music and a silohette of Paul with his guitar. From then on it was dancing and crying and singing. Paul sang for a good two hours and everytime he left the stage he was brought back three or four times. He dedicated a song to George and John, sang old Beatle songs, Wing songs, and new songs from his new album Driving Rain. I swear that man looks just like he did when I was twelve. He looked great and sang fantastically. I cried folks because this made me realize how fleeting time is. When he sang She Was Just Seventeen, I got chills. I looked around at one point and all the women and men my age had the most strange yet wonderful smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes. My friend Connie felt like I did like we were kids again and it was such a great night. I could list all the songs he sang but if you are a Beatle, Wings, or just plain fan of Pauls you know the songs and folks he sang them all!! Everytime he left the stage the MGM crowd would bring him back out. When he sang Let It Be everyone in the house held up a lighter, I swear it took me back to concerts gone by. Paul is touring the country and I am sorry but I don't know what the current schedule is. If you go to keyword Paul McCartney they have a fan and concert site for him and it tells you where and when he will be in concert. Also any ticketron or Dillards Concert line should be able to tell you. This is one concert you don't want to miss. Remember "The love you take is equal to the love you make" |
