A Whisp of Green Steam
by Granniemose | Jun 25 '02
It isn't easy being green! Similarities to anything living or dead are purely coincidental.

So glad Jude hides the car keys, I think I want to come back as a cockroach and scare the hell out of my mother-in-law.

Well, if I were to have a choice between being an otter or a cracked clam, I think I otter be and otter. (Cracked clam, indeed) (snort). Actually I was hoping to be a manatee in Florida. It might be fun trying to escape the big boat motors.

Thanks for the comment.

. . . I would chose a sea otter for your next incarnation.

And give you a sheltered home at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Here, have a cracked clam.

Nicely done, Virginia.

Oh where can my bay-bee beeee? The Lord took her away from meeee. She's gone to Heaven so I gotta be good---so I can see my baby when I leave this world!

I love that song and your story reminded me of it. I loved the whisps of green steam. It seems so beautiful and real. GREAT, GREAT story!

Thanks for sharing!

Di - Thank you, my friend. I really had no intent. It is true - I kill those tiny ants the way I said. Once when I saw all of those specks being washed off the paper towel, I thought of some religion (Is it Hindu?) where they don't kill any living thing, because the beetle you kill today might have been Aunt Min yesterday. I thought, maybe I am killing hundreds of Aunt Mins.
So, the story was born. The only thing it really accomplished is this. Jude refuses to help me kill ants anymore. So I guess I am still the Jeffrey Dohmer of the little black ant population, except that I don't eat them - or at least not knowingly.

Amy - Well, I thank you. I don't really need to be read by anyone except my friends here on Epinions. If these great writers sometimes like what I put down, I am happy, and grateful to all of you for putting up with me.

Lil Rebel - Thank you. I plead guilty to the bizarre - the parade always seems to be going the other way - but gifted? No, not really. I just put down random thoughts that probably I should have kept to myself. I do like the Writers Corner, though. It gives me, and a lot of us, I think, a release for the thoughts that might be bouncing around inside our heads.

Lorace - Thank you. I am sure the saved insects will be added to your other kindnesses in eternity. I'm glad you liked the story. I won't know how accurate it is until I get there, though.

Letta - First let me say I am glad you and Bill are back in Iowa, and that all went well.

Why did I use green? I really don't know, unless I was wearing a green pant suit when I typed it.
I think I heard it said, or read it somewhere, that the last breath is colored green. It's just a story.

As for mother in laws - well, it would be fun to swap tales. Take care.

Shannon - Thank you. I don't kill spiders either.
I think I made a deal with them. They stay away from my bedroom and bathroom, and I don't go after them with my broom. Of course the spider webs in the corners of the ceilings in the living room are not too attractive. Let me say I don't go after them with the broom until I am sure that the spiders have left them.

Summer - Thank you. And, no, I have never been published - except when I was a teen I won a radio contest for an essay that won me a cocker spaniel - and once in high school for an essay that almost got me suspended when it appeared in the local paper. (It concerned the fact that school rules and regulations destroy creativity) It also got me in big trouble with my Mother.

This is excellent, I really don't know your intent, if there was one, but it sure has me pondering. I find it deeply stimulating in a cognitive way. Hmmmmm me thinks Virginia needs to submit some of her writings, or rent out your wonderful and creative mind.

excellent indeed

Wow!

You really have so much to offer, Virginia! I agree with the "consensus" -- these are good enough, better than good enough, to be read by more than just us Epinions folk!

What fun it was and how sweetly sad. You really said a lot, though, and it was fascinating.

Like Jude said..I'll feel guilty killing an ant. But I did save a cricket from the pool and I think a wasp, too! Does that count in eternity?
I hope so.

Great work.

Thanks,

First wisdom, second wit and now this!

I am flabbergasted Virginia and I don't think I "flabbergast" that easilly :)

AND even more, this time wisdom based in logic;

"If you were going to burn in torment for eternity, you would need a body, wouldn’t you?"

I salute you Virginia
