A Courtship With Evil: The Seeds Are Planted

Jun 29 '02

The Bottom Line The Seeds Are Planted is from my book A Courtship With Evil, a twenty-seven chapter novel that traces the lives of the remaining blood relatives of Nosferatu.

Chapter One

He could feel the heartbeat, gathering pace as she tried in desperation to elude him. These two were no strangers; they were carved from the same demon seed. Created from an unspoken lust under a forbidden sign, they were the last of the true Nosferatu. The bloodletting creatures that survived off of others misery and greed, the last two of the Royal bloodline carried over from the creator of their race.

He was strong and all knowing. Peeking inside the minds of his victims, he took great pleasure in knowing their last mortal thoughts before he sucked away their soul. With piercing eyes and skin as smooth as satin he had a taste for the exceptional things in life. Money was of no concern of his since his wealth was never ending. He kept in his stable several wealthy women that paid him to regularly bleed them. By doing so they were preserved in some twisted suspended animation, never aging, never showing a single wrinkle. Since he possessed such a power and used it for his own advantage, he was well compensated for sucking on the neck of these ancient women.

She was his twin. She had the same piercing eyes and satin skin. She hunted within the same wealthy circle although she was not as kind or caring. Often, she took her customers to the brink of death extorting more funds from them before she would release her talon like grip. Merciless and maniacal, her laugh was that of a hyena and her gaze as cold as frost. In her eyes there was no life, no burning ember of existence. In the midst of her grandeur she was utterly isolated from all things familiar.

Over six hundred years ago a peasant widow was approached by a caped man ambling about on a desolate road. He offered her a small pouch of gold if she would leave her village and accompany him to his masters’ estate in Darby Glenn. She ignored the man, held her wares tightly against her body and quickened her pace towards safety. The torches of the village burned brightly however no matter how fast she walked, the village seemed no closer. Her breath grew thready and a sudden chill washed around her, panic was starting to set in. The caped man appeared in front of her and offered to double the amount of gold. Nothing on his person was visible except his long, slender finger encased by wrinkled skin. The nail was dark and discolored and came to rather fine point.

Fear not ma’lady, all that is required of you is a few moments of consideration. The master will reward your attentions in ways you shall never be able to imagine. His voice was tranquil, almost serene. For a moment, a split second, she allowed her guard to drop when swiftly reality fell upon her like a knife to her heart.

She stopped. What magic brought him in front of me when at last glance he was at the turn in the road?

She tried desperately to see any portion of his face, some sign that he was indeed human. When she mustered the ability to take a step forward and reach out to touch the cape, it collapsed to the ground. The small cloud of dust that washed over the road left her spellbound. She tried to move but found herself held steadfast in place by some unseen force. No words would escape from her mouth no matter how hard she tried to scream. In the distance she heard the clambering of a horse and carriage Someone will surely stop and help me, they must!

The coach did indeed stop to aid her, another of the masters minions dispatched to bring the widow to the guarded estate. Powerless, she found herself lifted by unseen arms into the carriage. A red velvet blanket covered her legs and a satin pillow appeared under her head. The scent of musk swept over the walls of the carriage and set her adrift into a unfathomable sleep. Her slumber was the perfect time for the master to unleash his demonic plans upon the world. Finally after searching for the perfect carrier, he found the one unguarded soul that shall carry his seed through future generations.

The chill in the room gave way to the crackling and hissing fire. She tossed and turned while carnal images flashed in her mind. Who were these faceless beings that haunted her dreams? The repulsive acts of sexual depravity piqued her curiosity as she found herself drawn further into the dark bowels of inosculation

Upon awakening in her own bed, thoroughly drenched in sweat, she took a few moments to assemble her thoughts before dismissing the previous nights events as a dream. She shook the images from her mind and started her day as usual. Nothing could have prepared her as she entered the small kitchen of her flat. Sitting on the table were two purple velvet pouches. Neatly tied with blood red ribbons and an envelope between them – she once again found herself frozen.

Those images, they were not flights of fancy – God save my soul and take mercy on me. She fell to the floor and pounded her fists until blood poured freely from them. Those people were not dreams, they were real. I shall be damned to eternal hellfire. Soon she understood exactly what was asked of her and what her part was to be. There was no way out, no chance for escape for she was under the watchful eye of the master. The creator of all that is dark, the spawn … the one so powerful that to utter his name is to seal your fate with a cataclysmic bloodlust.

Authors Note: The above work is completely fictional. Any similarities to persons, living or deceased, is purely coincidental. It was written over a three-year period [1986 – 1989] and spans a massive 1,007 pages. It has previously been considered for publication however too much of the original text was to be edited for me to still feel comfortable with it. This is a synopsis of the first chapter, which – in original text – runs for 109 pages.
