The Bottom Line Save money buying refill kits, or save your printer buying branded cartridges.
At around $35.00 each for replacement cartridges, inkjet printers can get expensive to use and maintain. You may decide to try one of those refill kits to save some money. Be aware that these kits can cause problems and even void your warrantee.
Some background information: I have an Epson Color Stylus 600 inkjet printer at home. Epson's inkjets models 800 and before are notorious for clogged heads. (The newer models have solved this problem.) I would have to run the head-cleaning routine about once a month to get all of the nozzles flowing properly.
So, here is my experience with a refill kit. I decided to try to save some money on the cartridges by buying one of these. This kit comes with a syringe and inks that allows you to inject ink into the cartridges. It worked fine for a while, then I noticed that I had to run the head-cleaning more often. Over time this became more frequent, until I had to run it every day that I used the printer, and often a nozzle would clog in the middle of a job (usually this is the reverse).
Even worse, eventually I started to lose colors. First the cyan nozzles became completely clogged. Now the color doesn't work at all, and I can only print in black and white. I threw away the refill kit, and will dig out my wallet to purchase new cartridges from Epson. Hopefully I can unclog the heads, or I will have to purchase a new printer. Sending it in to Epson to have it fixed is not worth the out-of-warrantee cost.
