You might lose weight... but you'll also lose a bundle of money too!

Written: Nov 01 '06
Pros:You get individualized counseling and are weighed privately.
Cons:Very expensive!!! It's all about getting you to buy their products!
The Bottom Line: Save your money and find a weight loss plan that is not so draining on your pocketbook.

I wish I had read some reviews on LA Weight Loss BEFORE I had signed on. Most of the reviews that I have read since canceling my contract with LA Weight Loss have been very accurate and reflective of my experience there. At first the program seems very sensible - I liked the idea of one on one counseling, but then I realized what the program is really all about - selling you their products. You are not told up front that your must purchase and consume the LA Lites (nutrition bars and other products) in order to be guaranteed to lose weight. They LA Lite products are VERY costly and you are expected to pay for the products up front, instead of a pay as you go system. My second visit to the centre, I was made to watch a cheesy promotional video and listen to an employee pushing their products. Then I was told that my weight loss could not be guaranteed if I did not consume the LA Lites. I was skeptical of consuming their products, because I did not see them as a realistic way of losing and maintaining weight loss - afterall, I can't spend a lifetime consuming these things, I want to learn how to cope with everyday foods.

I also did not like the fact that people who are not health professionals were doing health assessments on me (e.g. taking my blood pressure etc...)

I found some of the nutrition facts troubling as well... for example, I was told that the Caesar salad at places like Boston Pizza were counted as a "vegetable"... when I tried to ask "what about all the fat in the dressing?" - we all know how fattening caesar salad is - the staff member gave me some answer that didn't make any sense.

When I first joined, I was optimistic about the program... then I realized that I was being taken advantage of. During the first visit, they weigh you, making you feel all vulnerable and then tell you how much weight you will lose in a short time frame to get you hooked. Then you are hit with the products and the sales pitch! Well, I guess the program is good for people who have money to burn.

If you are interested in the actual cost (prices of course will vary from location to location and if there are specials). I paid over $600 (Canadian) up front (there is no option for pay as you go, but they do offer some sort of Credit program, something I wasn't about to get into). The LA lites (for the whole program) would have cost about $1600, but I was offered a "special" to buy them in bulk for over $1000. I would have been fine with the initial cost of $600, because I was going to get individualized counselling, but I was not okay with having all these costly products pushed on me.
