The Bottom Line n/a
Off and running... * So The Who are going to continue their tour after all...I think a post to the Who newsgroup shortly after John's death was announced summed things up nicely: So Pino Palladino is going to ride into the West on his trusty white steed, 4-string slung over his back, do two days' worth of rehearsals with Daltrey and Townshend, and then step onto a concert stage and try to replace one of the world's most influential bass players. Sure. And JFK was shot only from the Book Depository, O.J. Simpson was completely innocent of the charges, and the CIA had absolutely no advance warning about September 11th. The gist is that the poster figured the Who had someone in the wings just in case Entwistle's heart condition prevented him from doing the tour. I wouldn't be surprised. Oh, and before you rip Pete Townshend for doing this for money, realize that if money was a factor in continuing, it was ROGER who needs the money, not Pete. * According the latest installment of their "Rumor Pit", the new Pearl Jam disc will be out in November. No title yet. The B-sides disc will be out next year, and the Pit also mentions the possibility of some concert dates before a tour of Australia happens next Feb/March. Here's hoping a small Boston venue gets played. * There were apparently PLENTY of tickets left for the recent Britney Spears Massachusetts shows...yes Britney, you ARE all done...you ARE the weakest link...GOODBYE! * Speaking of Britney, she's gonna be on the NOW 10 compilation. If you go to MTVnews.com and read the news story, you'll see Britney looking like the biggest Times Square ho in the world. No joke. * OK, so let me get this straight: Weezer and the Muppets in the same video? If Marcos Siega somehow screws THIS up, he should be shot, period, end of story. * I really really really love that new Dave Matthews single Where Are You Going?. I don't know what it is about it, but it hits me and nearly puts me in tears everytime I hear it. * Am I the only one that really hates Dashboard Confessional? The dude looks like Freddie Prinze Jr w/ constipation! It's gonna suck having to sit through them before Weezer. * Songs from a long lost recording session of Eddie Vedder dubbed "The Birdman Sessions" have begun leaking out...so far, covers of Tom Petty's American Girl and Radiohead's Creep have been unearthed...I haven't heard them, but apparently they are very drunken. The 1995 Eddie Vedder drunk? I don't believe it! ;) * So help me, both The Aquabats and Less Than Jake better play local shows here soon or else I'm gonna go nuts...LTJ is hitting like every east coast city except Boston, WTF is up with that? * That new Aerosmith greatest hits collection went into stores this week...*YAWN*...however, the best news regarding Aerosmith is that Steven Tyler, long thought to be the main problem with this issue, said that the long awaited Aero blues album WILL happen, probably sooner rather than later, in an interview with a Boston newspaper last week. It's about damn time they make a solid bluesy rock album rather than farting around with sh*t like Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, the most embarrassing #1 single for a rock artist ever. * Speaking of hits collections, and this may seem like an inappropriate time to be taking shots, but it's sad that the stickers on the new Who hits collection says something along the lines of "features BARGAIN: as heard on ads by Nissan." * To T-Boz and Chili of TLC fame: keep on working together, doing whatever, but don't call what you come out with TLC...that just ain't right. * Am I the only one who really enjoyed the Hootie BTM? Come on, you KNOW you own that first album still, and you KNOW it would still be a guilty pleasure if you put it on right now! * I'd comment on the whole R Kelly thing, but you know, scum like him aren't worth my time. * Lastly, I want to give a huge congratulations to Stairway2Drew of this site for pulling off what I've long considered doing: a top 100 rock and roll songs list. That list rocked, even if I didn't agree with all of it. |
