The Bottom Line The news media does love a good story.

Armageddon starts
Fiery death rains from the skies
Film at eleven

I guess you could say this stems from my long-standing wonder (and in no small part, anger) of the news media's sensationalistic ability to compress the telling of a tragic (or wonderful) event into a two-minute story, complete with "thoughtful" color commentary and summary conclusion. Many, many things are newsworthy, yet why do the major networks and newspapers focus mainly on that which will get them the highest ratings or circulation?

I don't guess I blame the news media for wanting to turn a profit, or for giving the people what they want to hear. What upsets me the most is that what people want to hear is not what is most relevant. One only needs to look at the circulation figures of the Enquirer to see this.

Okay, I'll take my soapbox and leave now. Forgive me my ranting; I started a philosophy class about a week ago and it's already got me more outspoken about stuff that I've been thinking for a long time.
