| silvem's Full Review: Creative Labs Nomad II (64MB) MP3 Player |
One thing that I like about mp3 players is that you can store your favorite songs on them until you get bored of those songs, then you delete them and replace them with your newest favorite songs. The reason I decided to buy an mp3 player was that I found myself burning a CD every other week since new songs that I wanted to listen to were coming out so frequently (or I was finding older songs that I liked). Since the hassle of burning CDs that often finally got to me, I decided to buy an mp3 player.
The Nomad II MG is a nice mp3 player. I was looking for something very compact, yet not lacking in features. Thus my search led me to the Nomad II MG. For the high price tag of $250 (at Amazon.com) I bought one. The sound quality is excellent and surpassed my expectations. The volume is quite good, and can be loud enough for those people inclined to listen to music at deafening levels. The volume is adjustable, and the controls range from an inaudible 1 to a ear-splitting 50. The quality is almost equal to that of a CD, even when I use a tape adapter in my car (which I highly recommend, since for this high of a price tag you expect to use the Nomad as much as possible). The Nomad is very portable (in fact one of the smallest on the market), and the casing is quite durable. However, this leads me to one of the drawbacks- the case provided with the Nomad II MG. The buttons include (in addition to the normal on/off, stop, play, forward and back) an erase button, a mode changer (from FM radio to voice recording to normal play mode), a repeat/random button, the volume up/down control, a "lock" button [which is quite useful], and a very cool A-B button which lets you repeat any part of any song indefinitely by pushing the button once to set the beginning ("A") of the repeated section and then pressing it again to set the end ("B") of the repeated section. These buttons are all located on the sides of the mp3 player, which is kind of awkward without the case on. However, with the case on these buttons are almost completely inaccessible. The only way around this is to sort of "memorize" where the respective buttons are so that you can leave the case on, forget about the case, or buy the remote (which is $50 from Creative Labs' homepage). In spite of this drawback, the player is still great. My only other complaint is that it uses batteries sort of quickly, but the rechargeable batteries included help solve this problem. The base memory of 64mb is very nice, but I recommend adding at least another 32mb smartcard so that you can fit a good number of songs on the mp3 player.
Overall, it's a great mp3 player that I am very satisfied with. I use it all the time and I believe I got my money's worth.
