| lorace's Full Review: Alltel Mobile Phone Service in Phoenix |
I purchased my first phone from them one day from a booth set up in Walmart's. The price was reasonable, $29.95 a month, 1-year contract, 75 Free Minutes. I wanted a cellphone merely for the safety aspects of one - being able to dial 911 in an emergency.
The first phone was an Analog one. Since then, Alltel has gone to digital. So, when the Analog one had outlived its service, (it could hardly hold a charge for any time at all, after 2 years' use.) my husband and I went into their local office in Scottsdale, to get a new phone.
We soon learned that they no longer handled that type, and the clerk showed us a QUALCOMM Digital phone. We were sold on it immediately and signed a 1-year contract at only $19.95 per month, 75 minutes free time, a much broader range where it could be used free - no roaming charges.
The phone itself was offered to us at $29.95 which is far less than a new battery would have cost for the Analog one. Plus we were given the car adapter and home adapter/charger at no cost whatsoever.
Its features are tremendous. it has an LCD readout (which the analog didn't possess) with MENUs and Help Files and storage capabilities plus incoming call messages.
My dealings with their offices have never been anything but satisfactory. I like the way I can call in and make my payment on the phone - speaking to the computerized operator. I could also pay online, I'm pretty certain of that, but at this writing, I am not positive of it. But the phone payments work great for me.
I realize that the minutes offered are not as many as some services offer, but neither are the charges. And if it fits a person's needs and a person's pocketbook, what more is there?
We've enjoyed this phone for six months now and look forward to enjoying it for a much longer time. And, incidentally, I do use it a lot more than just for 911. It's been a great addition to our life.
When they upgrade, we will go with them. They have Good Service - Good Phones - and good prices!
Update Information 2005
Well, I see I've used this service for over four years now.
Alltel is still my provider of choice. They have never raised their rates on me in all that time. And, what's more, they continue to make special features available to us, for no extra charge. One time I was notified that we had free long-distance calls for the entire year. Another time they gave us unlimited weekend hours.
Their bills have come regularly, payments credited promptly, and in these four years, I haven't had to contact them about any dissatisfactions on my part.
The Kiosk where I started this service in 2001, is still in Wal-Mart where I go now and then to change to a newer cellphone, etc.
They are always up-to-date, offering anything you could get elsewhere, and their prices for these services/items are usually less than those of their competitors.
So, you may surmise that I am sold on Alltel. I wouldn't think of switching services.
