I must commend Creative Labs for another great product. The Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value is simply the best there is in the market. At a price of around $50, you get to enjoy quality sound that will satisfy that audiophile in all of us =D
Hassle-free installation
I simply slotted in my card into the PCI card-slot and booted up my computer. When Windows asked for the drivers, I just had to insert the installation CD and everything was settled!
Redundant?
One thing though. There's the "Live!Ware" programme that I feel isn't really necessary. Listening to demos and the effects might be cool, but having the programme run everytime I boot up and stay there just irritates me. The customisation is convenient, but if you really look at it, the memory you're sacrificing for this isn't worth it.
Gamers rejoice!
Channel more money getting a few hundred more mHz of processor clockspeed from the money you can save by getting this card. I upgraded my system from a Pentium 266, and my sound card was mediocre compared to this baby here! The satisfaction I get when I can hear my opponent's footsteps coming from behind me whenever I play Quake or Unreal is simply enormous!
I listen to MP3s and occassionally cut my own audio CDs (for backup purposes! =D ), and the sound quality I get is totally cool. I think about the price I paid too, and Creative Labs got themselves another die-hard fan =D
Overall
Creative Labs dominate the sound card market, and their Live! Value offer will appease even the budget-conscious. Couple this card with a decent four-point speaker + subwoofer set and you won't ask for more.
