The Bottom Line It is time politicians treated this problem seriously...

I have been using widgets in various shapes and sizes... for many years. If such a thing is possible..I am the nearest thing you will find to a connoisseur of widgets. I am happy to bring you this review and exciting news for all users worldwide.. I can safely say that latest generation of widgets is safely the best I have ever used or maybe that should be I have safely used. I would go further and say we are witnessing a whole new era of widget development, with its precision moulding and elegant contours, I feel certain it will revolutionise our use of widgets.

I know you want to know a more about widgets and their history. In days gone by widgets.. were made using natural rubbers and even leather and were hardly recognisable as widgets by modern standards. It is believed that the first widgets were developed by the ancient Greeks but there really is little to prove this. We do know that the mass production of widgets started with the Industrial Revolution and that rubber for their manufacture was imported as part of the appalling triangular trade. It is a little known fact that by the 1930's the Hughes Corporation had secured a worldwide monopoly on their production. But these days most of our widgets are imported from the far east.

In a similar way to the humble rivet that holds together our bridges, trains and buildings, nobody can deny that widgets have played a huge part in the development in our modern sophisticated society. Can you imagine a single mechanism that doesn't rely on a widget to keep it functioning ?

These days most if not all widgets are manufactured using new synthetic rubber compounds.. it is safe to say widgets have reached a new peak of reliability and sophistication. I have heard a rumour that these new compounds have been developed by NASA specifically for a new era of interstellar space travel. I am sure I don't need to tell you that it is essential that a widget doesn't fail at a critical juncture. So the future for widget producers worldwide looks bright !

It is safe to say that we have now reached the era of the "throw away widget".. in our consumerist era there is even a trend towards the fabrication of French widgets that incorporate flavours and colours. Many would argue that this development represents a natural progression for the industry but I have to say I am personally uncomfortable with this... what would our forefathers have made of it ?

But sadly there is a down side to all this.. we forget that these early widgets made from natural materials presented few problems when it came to recycling.. when the widget had reached the end of its useful life it could be safely be thrown on the compost heap and it would break down naturally over time leaving no non-organic residues.

However much performance and quality has been improved.. there is a major draw back with the use of these new synthetic widgets...and that is "recycling !" I don't want to pump this more than necessary but its a fact that many of these widgets are likely to be around for decades...maybe stretching into centuries. Already we are witnessing the growth of redundant widget mountains in many of communities ! Who can say they haven't seen a redundant widget carelessly disguarded.. floating down the river ! So.. lets not duck this issue..it is a major problem.

The signs are not promising.. George Bush's decision not to place the Presidential seal on the Global Widget Accord is very disturbing. I realise I must tread carefully on this one.. but other nations have rubber stamped the accord so why should the US be the sole country to opt out on this ?

Why should the US's bend the rules on this issue.. in trying to offload its widget problem onto third world countries ? It is time politicians treated this problem seriously.. we need to vulcanise widget users worldwide into a major campaign.. we need to work tirelessly to bring pressure to on our politicians. We must push them into dealing with this pressing problem.. they must get hold of your widgets !!!!
